Fuel pump?

Anybody ever hear of a fuel pump going out on a Focus with only 45K miles? Car is currently at my local garage. They will be looking at it tomorrow. Car seems to be getting little and sometimes no fuel. No power. Stalling. Barely made it to the garage. Fuel pump? I guess I will fing out after they check it with a fuel pressure gauge. Just seems odd, only 45K miles. Wonder how much that will soak me for?

Re: Fuel pump?

There was a massive recall on the Focus fuel pump a little over a year ago...I would have taken the car to a Ford dealer, and get the pump changed in case it never was, or to have it replaced. The recall pump should last much longer then a little over a year. I don't know if it's too late to take it to a Ford dealer, but that is really what I would do. The pump in the Focus was failing a lot, many times while in use on a highway/road, stalling the car. I know that it had something to do with the metal used to make the drive gears were not able to stand up to the stress and were wearing down prematurely.

Re: Fuel pump?

The Ford Focus has a major problem - which is the fuel pump. I was going up the road at about 55 mph then all of the sudden the vehicle started loosing power, the more I pressed on the gas pedal the more the vehicle lost speed; from 55 mph it went to 35 mph in just a few minutes. Then it completed stalled and I end it up pulling to the shoulder of the road. This problem has been happening very frequently, especially when the car has to do a lot of work going up a hill.

Re: Fuel pump?

Did you have your pump changed under the recall?

Re: Fuel pump?

I just phoned the dealer where I bought it. It's not an actual "recall." The pump was given an "extended warrenty." I beleive they said 10 years. They looked it up and my vehicle did not have the pump replaced. It's currently at my local garage with whom I take my vehicles to. He said it seemed like the fuel pump from a road test he performed on it. He didn't do a pressure test on it thus far. He said the only problem he noticed was when he was going up a grade. My nearest ford dealer is 10 miles down the road. The ford dealer where I purchased it is 30 miles down the road. However, they may be able to get it in a little faste than the nearest dealer. I spoke with them and they are kind of back-logged. I appreciate the help on here!!!!! If I wouldn't have posted I would have been paying my local mechanic to fix it!!!!!!!

Re: Fuel pump?

Hi all-

I own a 2002 ford focus ZX3, and its fuell pump seems to be failing. My car suddenly stalled on me while driving 50mph. I took it to the mechanic and he thought fuel pump, he told me about the probs with these cars. I took it to the dealer and my car isnt covered. what should i do? I tried calling Ford customer service and they will not help. I do not want to pay for a repair which is a known defect on the car. Any advice?

Re: Fuel pump?

The recall, if I remember correctly was on all Focus pumps...did they give you any reason for denying you the recall? Unless you have a ridiculouslly high number of miles, I see no reason for them to deny it to you...

I did a recall search on 2002 Focus at the following site:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recal...calls_auto.htm

Nothing came up for 2002. This is where I did the same search for my 2001 Focus and it stated 2001 was recalled for the fuel pump. If you search for yourself you will see what I mean.
