2005 Southern California TT Rally
Howdy, This is the 5th year. I drive a Datsun 510 but used to own 69 Mach 1 and realized how many muscle cars were in So Cal and thought i'd invite you all to this. It's getting bigger every year.
WWW.SOCALTT.COM for pics and info. The appilcation and event info is below after my ramblings. This is downright the best fun i have ever had in an Automobile and Motorcycle. (cycle version is in early fall). This year the auto version is May 15th-16th. Sunday Monday. The first year I went I bought a 74 amc Gremlin for 250 bucks to take on this thing. I had so much fun but was insanely jealous of being in the back while the Porsches, Lotus', Ferrari's and other such exotics were up front hauling a**. I actually bought my 510 right after to take on this thing the next year. Last year I won the People Choice award in my 510 and there were some amazing classic cars on this thing. First off, it is NOT a race. It is a two day 700 mile (about 325 a day) rally through the So Cal Mountains and Desert for pre 1976 cars and contraptions. Anything pre 1976 that runs. (keep in mind. Tad, the moderator of the event, makes plenty of exceptions for cars up to around 1979) We take off from Dodger Stadium on Sunday morning and tear through the San Gabriel mountains, stop for lunch near big bear and then tear off into the high desert in Mojave to end the first night in Yucca Valley near Joshua Tree. Second day is down to Palm Springs and up to the San Bernadino mountains- stop for lunch in Idyllwild and then back into the San Gabriels to end back in LA for an awards dinner Monday night. The roads are clean, twisty and straight, there is much comraderie, we are never that far form the I-10 corridor and spend Sunday night exclusively at the Yucca Valley Inn with a heated pool and hot tub. Drinking and fetivities abound. It's a laid back event but highly organized and we meet up through out each day for gas stops and lunchs. Tad, who puts this together, clearly maps out the course each year and offers alternative routes and side loops for those wanting some super fun roads. Last year we had some AMAZING cars. Ferrari's, Shelby Mustang, Pontiac Formula 400, 56 Porsche Speedster, Citroens, Jags, Rovers, Alfas, 57 Chevy...you name it. There is a great group of repeats (many from the SF and Bay area) every year and also new attendees each year. We hit 35 cars last year and I, personally, would love to see some more old muscle on this event. People love to see American cars in this event. Check the Website and email me back if you want more info or Email Tad (the organizer) at [email protected] as well.
