Tires in the desert

Been away from the Jeep thing for wayyyy too long, so got me a great deal on a nice '88 Cherokee and am back in it again, sweet. Back in the days I used to run Armstrong Tru-Tracs, which I loved. Question is, since Tru-Tracs apparently are no longer around what is a good tire for use primarily in the deserts of SoCal and Baja (I live close to it all). Just put a 3" Rancho kit on it so looking for maybe 31" 'ers ???? Interested to see what you all recommend.

btw, thanks to this board for my Cherokee!!! (I found this one with a "bad" tranny (AW4), ultra-cheap, that the owner wanted to dump after rebuilding the motor and not wanting to spend 2k more on the tranny, and discovered via this forum it had a bad TPS, bought it, changed the TPS, works great and got a hellacious deal on it! Thanks everybody)

Re: Tires in the desert

Wow, those Armstrongs take me back a while.

For serious off roading, the major brands tires are a bit compromised towards on-road use because that is where their customers spend most of their time.

For serious off roading, especially in the US south west, try:
