'99 grand am overheating problems

When i start up my '99 grand am gt, it runs pretty rough and the engine shakes about 2-3 inchs in either direction. It shakes so bad you can see the shaking the exaust pipes in the back. If i let it run for awhile the shaking will stop but sometimes the rpm's when im at idle will jump about 200-500 rpm's. If i drive the car right after i start it without letting it sit there for about 5 minutes the transmitions acts as if its slipping the car will sort of jump forward, but im pretty sure its not a transmition problem because the car still acts up when its in park. When i drive the car for about 10 mintues the temp jumps up to the red zone so i shut off the car and look under the hook and all of the coolant sprays out of the overflow tube and drenchs the firewall.

Im taking it in to get fixed tomorrow, but i just wanted all the info i could get about this before i brought it there. So any help at all will be great! Thanks

Re: '99 grand am overheating problems

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Does it smoke in the engine bay?
