I have a 2002 Kia Sportage that periodically stalls or 'stumbles' when slowing down or stopping. It also periodically hesitates as if it wants to stall when taking off. The service engine light comes on sometimes but not all the time.
Any suggestions? Thanks |

Re: Sportage Stalling when slowing
MOst occurences that carry those symptoms are addressed with cleaning the Idle COntrol Valve.
![]() Remove it and spray with carb cleaner. This dislodges gummy goo and most say this has restored proper operation. I have not had this problem myself...yet.

A dirty IAC will not generally set a check engine light so something else is going on.
If you are located in the U.S. (except California) any local Autozone will scan the engine computer on pull the trouble codes that caused the check engine light to come on. Even though the light is off the codes are still stored in the ECM. The codes will be formatted PXXXX, where XXXX is series of numbers. Get all the codes that spit out of the engine computer and post them here. We can suggest fixes. |
