I'm in the market for a used pickup truck, preferably one of the smaller ones like the Ranger, older Nissan, etc. just for trips to home depot.

I've seen quite a few of the Rangers around and it looks like a 4x8 sheet of plywood/drywall/wallboard would fit along top of the wheel wells.

What about the older Nissan's? There's a nice one for sale but it's a ways away. Can anyone tell me if a 4x8 sheet will fit in the bed of a '95ish Nissan with ext cab? I realize it'll probably hang out the back but I'm mainly conerned with width. I've searched the internet for the Nissan box dimensions to no avail.

Anybody with an older Nissan care to measure it for me?

You'd have to make a platform to go over the wheel wells. With plywood, you'd probably be ok, but with sheetrock, it'll snap when you hit a bump.

My last truck was an OLD Mazda (1989), and I can say that a 4X8 sheet of material will fit over the wheel wells. The same can be said for Toyota, Nissan Chevy and Ford compact trucks. However like the last poster said when it comes to sheetrock, you really do have to be careful of it snapping. I used to load about 10 sheets of drywall in with the tailgate up and position my toolbox under the drywall, and never had a sheet break once. But I tell you for the convenience of it I'm glad that my new truck is a full size, just makes things so much easier.

The box on my 92 Nissan extended cab measures approx. 4x7.5

Thanks guys. I just looked at a 94 Nissan Extended cab 4x4 and did a quick rough measurement of the box and it confirms what you say. I figured the sheetrock would need support on the ends. Maybe I'll be hooking up with that truck this week.
