Axel joint??? rubber thing broke.....

I obviously don't know alot about cars. I have a 96 civic 4 door ex.

I had a bumping noise in my passenger side front wheel, my boyfriend told me it was probably just ice...but now that its warmer I realized it was something more.

We took a look, comparing the wheels and wheel wells on both sides and the saw that the rubber protector for the joint from the axel to the weel was broken and had been wearing down. It's also very dirty now.

I took it in today and I have a feeling it's all going to have to be replaced. (probably right axel and anything else involved in that joint)

I figured it would cost around 200 to 300ish(american...im canadian) for parts(or refurbed parts) and then labour on top?

I just don't want to get ripped off so if anyone has had this done or has an idea how much this will cost that would be wonderful. Thanks.

Amber

Re: Axel joint??? rubber thing broke.....

For a 96 Civic, an remanufactured axle usually doesn't cost more than $100. Used ones at the junkyard usually are priced at around $50-75. This is in the US though, don't know how prices range up in Canada.

If you know anyone that is mechanically incline, have them swap the axle out for you. It's a pretty easy job aslong as you have the right axle.
