Re: F1 vs Le Mans

Most generic broad question ever anyone? In a race between a Ferrari F2005 and say an Audi R8, the Ferrari would eat it's lunch....however, if you bring back the GTP cars of the late 80's mid 90's, on a high speed track with not a lot of slow corners, a GTP car like a Jaguar XJR-13 would win because of it's insane top speed (250+ mph compared to ~220 mph for an F1 car)...but THEN if you take the turbo era F1 cars of the early and mid 1980's (1400 hp ferrari anyone?), then forget about it...basically in most cases, an F1 car would whoop an ALMS car or a sports racing prototype of any kind, period.

Go F1!

Thanks a million. That's what I was thinking. I made some bet with some guy at work. He seems to think Le Mans is the zenith. Thanks buddy. You just made me some $$$$$!

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

Do I get a cut? j/k
But yeah, if we are talking about modern day F1 cars and modern day LeMans prototypes, the prototypes don't have a snowballs chance in hell.

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

Haha...right, on. I'll send you a check for %50 of the profit. That's exactly $2.50!

I was sure F1 would stomp the Le Mans but I couldn't prove it. Hard to find the proof on the net.

Thank god for enthusiasts like yourself.

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

F1 cars are insane. end of story... even if le mans cars can reach a higher top speed they would slow more in corners probably. unless your racing on a freakin test track with 10 billion degree banked corners.

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

Formula 1 cars actually don't gain their main advantage in the turns...it's in accelerating and deaccelerating...the cars weigh like 1300 pounds and have huge brakes so they can stop on a dime...and they weigh 1300 pounds and have 900 horsepower so then can rocket out of slow corners faster than any lemans prototype.

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

of course their advantage is in cornering grip, some of the cars pull like 8gs on cornering.
Try throwing a normal car into a corner like a F1; you will over/understeer or spin out.

Re: F1 vs Le Mans

From last year's fastest race laps:
LMES:
Monza: Audi R8 1:39.045
Nurburgring (pole qual) Zytek 1:46.681
Silverstone: Zytek 1:34.033
Spa: Audi R8 2:06.626

F1:
Monza: Barrichello 1:21.046
Nurburgring: Schumacher 1:29.468
Silverstone: Schumacher 1:18.739
Spa: Raikkonen 1:45.108

I think it's safe to say it's not very close.

1 second per lap is smokesville, but 21 seconds at the speed there running is like 1/4 of a lap. Do that times 4 and you just got lapped.
