Anyone know of a '73 or '74 Nova kit?

Anyone seen one of these? Plenty of 62-72 kits, even a 77-78 kit, but I can't seem to find this one specifically. Trying to build one for a buddy of mine...

hmmm...The '73- 74 Nova differed slightly from the '68-72. The front clip and the tail-lights were different. The interior was very different, the later models were not quite as plain. The chassis had only minor differences. I owned both a '74 and a 71. Now as far as a kit of the 73-74, I know that no plastic kit exists. There MAY be one in resin out there somewhere,maybe even a conversion kit,but I can't find it. Good luck, and if you find one, let me know, I'd love to build a replica of my '74.

One never existed. I was looking for one myself to replicate a car my dad owned, in my research I found one modeler who converted her AMT '72 Nova. She goes by "MustangGal" on the hobby heaven board.

I was going to post on that message and I couldn't find the pix on my disc. Then it happened to hit me that I added a few of the many to my Fotki album. So I did just post my reply to that message.

There are four pics of the model I did. There was a lot of work that went into it. I've since sold it in eBay (final bid was over $100). MAYBE I'll do another one, who knows.

What I did...

1) Recut the rear quarter windows and made new frames.

2) Cut the bumper and fender extensions from the 72 grille. The fender extensions were glued to the fenders and reshaped with filler, then the new separation lines carved. The front bumper had the vents filled, pieces of strip plastic added to the top and filed to shape and the rub strips added, also using strip plastic. I used Bare Metal to chrome the new part.

3) The grille screen came from the custom part from the AMT 53 Ford pickup. NOT the chrome one but the non-chrome black screen. I just cut what I need out of the center of that part. The parking lights are the foglights from the AMT 68 Shelby GT500. They really should've been shortened a bit but I already had enough work in this thing.

4) The headlights came from my parts dept. They were originally from the MPC 72 Grandprix. Unmodified as they matched just fine as they were.

5) The taillight panel was made from sheet plastic with the taillight holes cut out. I had to make the license plate recess out of plastic bits too. The taillight lenses were cut from the clear red tailgate strip from the AMT/Ertl 92 Ford F150 XLT pickup.

6) The rear bumper is from the MPC 77 Mustang II kit. It even has a separate rub strip. The shape is fine but the ends have to be extended forward a bit. I chromed it using BMF with the rub strip just painted flat black.

The rest of the kit was built pretty much out of the box. I did paint the Rally wheels body colour though. I also added the side rub strip with strip styrene. The colour yellow is a custom mix I did using Tamiya acrylics and shot through an airbrush.

The whole project was fun for me. I've never liked Chevies as far as 1:1 gors but I do build models of them...LOL! And, true to my form, I always go the "different" route. One of my "gotta do" projects is a 65 and 66 Nova wagon. All I have to do is find a couple junk 63 wagon builtups with good roof and pillars. Oh yeah, a Craftsman 65 Nova would be nice too. Can't use the Rat Packer without relocating those darned rear fender wells. Oh well.
