electric fan question on 4.7

ok, i have been wanting to put an electric fan on my 2002 4.7, to get rid of some rotational mass and wind drag, and i popped the hood today to see what it would take and bam, theres already a 14 or so inch one there, and it seems to only kick on when the a/c is on....so if i juss took the belt driven fan off would the factory electric fan kick on at a certain temperature or should i go ahead and put an aftermarket one on the front of my radiator...thanks
Dwight

Yes you can remove the clutch fan. I did about 2yrs ago and I had no problems. I gained a bit of power and mpg. The electric fan kicks in if the engine gets a little hot sitting in traffic.

Fan questions

Just a thought, the fan on the 4.7 is a six blade fan if I'm not mistaken. Each blade is bolted to the clutch individually. What would it hurt to unbolt every other blade? Run three blades instead of 6. That way the fan would still be balanced and half the drag. Anyone have thoughts on that? I've wondered myself if the double fan was overkill myself. If one was to do a lot of heavy towing, you would probably want to keep it stock but not for a daily driver.
