Speen Sensor location 2002 Corolla

Can anyone tell me how to locate the Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on a 2002 Auto Corolla? I suspects it's on the transmission somewhere, but haven't been able to find it yet.

Also, if anyone knows ... I'm trying work out what the signal is that is sent by the VSS to the speedo, so that I can connect a signal/waveform generator to the speedo and simulate the car running at speed (ie. speed and odometer moving forward). Does anyone know if this is possible, if so what kind of signal/frequency/amplitude should be sent?

I know it sounds like an odd requests .... but I have my reasons!
