air suspension
How can you tell if the air bags are leaking. the compressor turns on after i turn on the car but it turns off after a few seconds. the air bags have some cracks (they are not too deep) in them and are pretty weathered. I also need to know if the air bags are supposed to stay inflated all of the time or if they should deflate a little after the car is turned off. The car still rides smooth at all speeds.

That is normal.
It is possible, if not likely, that the bags leak a little, this often happens as they age. NO rubber tire or air spring will hold air 100%, so some leakage is to be expected. Your RAS springs are made (and sold) by Arnott, do a google, and if you are inclined they can be easily replaced.

If the bumper is on the ground they leak.
 I do believe that the system actually does deflate purposely after the car sits for a certain period. Seriously you could shut the air suspension off for a day and check out the diff. The old soapy water trick will show up leaks in the bags, lines, solenoids, etc. On mine it was so obvious. Looked ike a sinking ship.
