Security light and keyless entry

Hello, I have read alot in this forum about both problems. But none actually gave a solution. Just wondering if anyone might have ran into the same problem as me and found a fix. I have a 2002 Grand Am Se1 bought it about a month ago did not come with the keyless entry, so i bought one had the tech try to program, the computer kept saying failure on it so he said that he was pretty sure the body control module was bad. And that was the reason it would not program. I didn't have the money to pay the diagnostic fee so i left without it working, now today I was washing my car and was coming home seen the security light came on. Now everytime I want to go somewhere I have to sit with the key on for 10 mins and start the car. Are both of these possibly related?.... Maybe the BCM? If anyone knows pleassssssse help and also if it is the bcm is this something I can change myself or does it need to be programed with the car... Thanks in advance for anyones help!

Re: Security light and keyless entry

Sounds like a short problem with the Ignition switch thats causing the security light. As for the programming the remote, you bought a recieving unit right?

Also welcome to the forum.

As for the remote all I did was ask the parts guy at the dealership and he looked up my vin and said that my car originally came with the keyless entry and all I would have to do is buy another remote and have it programmed by the tech but the tech was unsuccessful, about the ignition for the security light is that an expensive fix, for some reason today no probs with the security light I have noticed something strange thou when i have my cruise on and roll down my window the cruise shuts off and was messing with it a little more and seems like everytime I use the power windows my car revs up some, not sure what the 2 have in common but seems strange. If any ideas I would love to hear them

Re: Security light and keyless entry

The tech made a common mistake. The 2002 Grand Am has 2 different style Keyless entry systems.

One system the keyless is internal to the BCM and the other the Keyless is external to the BCM.

I'm sure the tech when into the BCM to attempt to program your keyless which would work with the internal Keyless to the BCMN. The external Keyless requires you to go to the RFA to program the key fobs. Go back to the dealer and tell them to go to RFA in the body area of the tech 2 and use that program feature.

As for your starting and your need to reprogram the key using the 10 minute relearn procedure would to me mean either the Passlock sensor or the BCM is bad. More than likely the Passlock sensor is your problem. The Passlock sensor is part or your ignition key cylinder. This is easy to replace for any do-it-yourselfer.

Flatrater is right on, i don't know much about the keyless thing but it sounds good The Security light problem is your ignition lock cylinder, although it was thought that only the 99-00 GA, Malibu's, Aleros, etc... experience this problem and the problem was fixed by GM in newer models, i'd say with your car its obvious GM has yet to fix their problem.

Start looking for a new lock cylinder. If you take your car to the dealership, you're looking at upwards of +350$ just for the part. Then theres labor and then i was told by one dealer that they'd have to send my car to a lock smith to have it "rekeyed" which i'm assuming is redoing to door locks so they're the same as the ignition again. There should be places out there on the web you can buy one, your major auto parts stores don't carry them though.

You'll want to get this fixed, don't end up like me and say your going to get it fixed sometime, and then it quits and your stuck in a parking lot.
