Console light out

I have a mk4 GTI with a console light out behind the temperature gauges. Its pretty tough to change the temp. in the car at night and I was wondering if anyone could give me any instructions on how to change the bulb. I heard that you could just pull the center dial (fan speed dial) out and the bulb is behind it, but that made me a little nervous.

There's an outside chance that this is being caused by fuses. I haven't been able to find a fuse diagram online anywhere for this car, if someone could point me to a good reference site, I should be able to fix this one by myself.

Just pull the fan speed knob off and use a small vacuum hose to pull out and put in a new bulb.
