vin plate decoding needed

im wondering if anyone knows how to decode the body vin tag so i can find out what my car had in it in 64. i already looked on year one and had no luck. im going to be doing alot of work soon and i would like to know what options im soposed to have. thanks

write the vin down and go to the dealership, they'll know everything with the vin.

Agreed. You also might be able to find information by googleing it up.

1st digit - Division -
1 = Chevrolet

2nd & 3rd digits - Series -
53 = Biscayne L6
54 = Biscayne V8
55 = Bel Air L6
56 = Bel Air V8
63 = Impala L6
64 = Impala V8
65 = Impala SS L6 (1965)
66 = Impala SS V8 (1965)
66 = Caprice V8 (1966-71)
67 = Impala SS L6 (1966-67)
68 = Impala SS V8 (1966-67)
4th & 5th digits - Body style -

Very cool information and I wasn't even the one looking for it. Do parts of these VIN Codes apply for modern cars as well? VIN might actually have a meaning to me other than a lot of freakin numbers and letters
