91 Escort hatchback

I purchased my car a little over 2 months ago 91,000 mi. Recently, I have noticed that while driving on the highway my car feels like it loses power when i pass 55 mph. It sounds like a gear has changed and when I continue to accelerate it feels like the car is going nowhere. My check engine light comes on, and yesterday as soon as I got home my car just stopped. It turned back on, but I'm afraid to go out now. Please help!!

Re: 91 Escort hatchback

I think autozone can give you the trouble code. With the trouble code you may be able to identify the problem.

Re: 91 Escort hatchback

Is it a 5 speed manual transmission or a automatic? It all most sounds like your clutch is slipping.

your automatic transmission could be slipping in higher gears, does it feel like your idiling in neutral?
