Angry hard to start when cold

LS (2001, v8, 65000 miles) is hard to start when car is cold. Starts fine if engine is warm. Took to local Lincoln dealership and they suggested I change the spark plug, #2 coil, and all seal rings; still no better. They have no clue. Any suggestions?

Keith

I would guess a fuel problem instead of spark, in this case. You might want to check fuel pressure. How hard is hard starting to you?

LS hard to start when cold

When I first attempt to start the car, it cranks but does not turnover. I then have to pump then hold the accelerator down and try again. After a few moments, the car starts. This only happens when the car is cold.

Re: hard to start when cold

Pumping doesn't do anything in a fuel injected car, but holding the pedal to the floor ~usually~ stops the injectors to help clear a flood situation.

Sounds like you have a (or multiple) leaking injectors. I'm not sure how long it takes for a properly functioning fuel manifold to bleed off pressure, but it may be helpful to check you fuel pressure at the manifold after shutdown and see how long it takes to bleed off...

I had this exact same problem and the dealer reprogrammed the PCM, installed new fuel pumps and leaky fuel injectors. This all happened over a 12 month period. Finally they found 4 leaky injectors and replaced them. After that it's been smooth sailing.

Ken? How's it? Just heard the news on the other board a couple days ago... Sorry about the falling-out. Your contributions will be missed. Glad to see you here.

Thanks Chris! I got a tremendous amount of emails from members on LLSOC when it was announced. Wow! I guess I made a friend or two there. My leaving was for the best. I've been very active on LincolnvsCadillac.com. I'll be over there most of the time now along with here and other automotive forums. I still have a lot of ideas and will bring them to the table where ever I go.

I'm excited to see this place doing well too!
