removing/avoiding fingerprints on windshields

two questions:

1.) I'm busy with those windshields. It gets covered with fingerprints all the time. I washed my hands carefully but that did work for a short time.

How do you guys do that? Just build the model and than clean the windshields? Or wash your hands with ammonia?

how to remove fingerprints in general?

2.) I don't know how to call these things. I'll show you a picture of it.


How to paint these things. Should I use masking tape, and than paint it with a brush? or is there another solution.

You would be hard pressed to work on the windshields for even a short amount of time without getting fingerprints on them.

Washing your hands with Amonia is *DEFINATELY* out of the question.

Some wear cotton or latex gloves when working on things like this, but it's much better to work on it, then clean them once fitted, before fitting the wipers.

The window seals (black rubber trim that holds the glass) are best masked off using hi-grade (Tamiya) masking tape, airbrushing friskett or (more costly) bare-metal foil and then trimmed carefully with an X11 blade. (Avoid heavy pressure here, or you'll go through to the paintwork, or worse still, *the plastic*.

Ensure you have burnished the edges down thoroughly using a thumbnail or blunted toothpick, then spray on X18 (semi gloss black).

Spray a very fine coat first - then leave for 10 minutes or so before a heavier coat. This seals the edges of the masking and avoids paint getting under the tape and onto the main bodywork.

Hmm, not dirtying windshields? That's unpossible! I've tried washing them with soap and water, then airdrying for 24 hours. This tends to bring out tiny scratches and leave some kind of stains on the windshield, for me at least.

I think I'm just going to leave them as they are until it's time to mount them, or paint them, and handle them as little as possible

Also, some people clearcoat it with Future Floor Finish or something other as soon as they get it, to protect it from handling.

Thanks for the good advice guys. I hope I get myself so far to get this job done today. (I usually wait and wait before I get to work on those difficult parts, that's why it takes me so long to build this model I guess)
