'97 cavalier Wont even turn over- PLS HELP!!

Hello all-
I am trading this car in TODAY and this problem just started yesterday I'm very upset.
First of all- I was at a redlight and the car just died. At that point- You could turn the key and everything lights up but no sound at all except a 2 second hum.
We checked the battery- fine. We replaced the alternator- still nothing. The only way to crank it is manually under the hood by touching some wires together (I dont know which, my dad handled it).
All I know is that you turn the key and all the lights come on but no sound and no attempt to turn over.
PLEASE HELP!!! I have to trade this car in in a matter of hours.
Btw, I have NEVER had any problems with this car at all. I've had it since '01 and it now has 140K miles on it.
Could this be the ignition switch/module?

Sounds like your starter solenoid burned out. I would replace the starter.

That's really sad that you even know what a Geo Metro feels like. I wouldn't dare put my precious ass in one of those rolling bombs. Cheers!

ahh yess the ignition control module... expensive little shits...

my bud has a 89 jeep yj and he likes to take her mudding so he went to get it washed and shut er down and went to start it up again and she would just turn over and over... we checked and there was no spark from the coil... so I guess he did a couple tests and it was the Ignition Control Module .... 140$ cdn later she was back on the road..
