What needs to be done to swap 88 crx si motor into a 90 civic hb?
I want to purchase a civic hatchback for $300, the thing is that the motor is shot the guy said. The motor in my crx si is a stock motor and is in good condition. I would like to swap the motors basically cause as you guys prolly remember that my crx body is shot. So what all would need to be done and would it be hard for a rookie doing this?
Thanks guys. |

you actually dont have to convert mpfi to dpfi,
just keep the manifold you got,if you wasn't into performance, unbolt from the transmission, its as easy as that.

Im not REALLY that into performance but wouldnt like it to be incredibly slow by doing this swap. I mean I like my engines performance right now as it is. So will it be the same when I do the swap? Are there any good detailed pics of engines/ and engine swapping out there?

Re: What needs to be done to swap 88 crx si motor into a 90 civic hb?
if the hatch you are buying is std or dx (not si) and you swap a crx si engine in you will need to convert the wiring..you can not just slap a MPFI enging into a DPFI car. generally the hardest part of upgrading to MPFI is collecting the parts....in your case you won't need to do that. as iphatcx mentioned to go www.4thGenerationCivic.com and in the how-to section there is the info you need to complete the upgrade.
i would also like to mention that by doing the MPFI you won't be gaining any more horses than you already had in the crx. now if you were to convert from MPFI down to DPFI you would loose horses. jehuty, the b16 swap is a whole other ball game. do a search within this forum and you will find all the info you need. or you can also stop by www.4thGenerationCivic.com and check out the engine section.

Re: What needs to be done to swap 88 crx si motor into a 90 civic hb?
On the FAQ for "4th Gen FAQ - If you are new, please read before posting" Where it has the "engine list" it says direct bolt in performance engines it has a list of a few engines including mine from my crx which is a d16a6 I believe*. When it says "direct bolt in" it also means you have to do the wiring conversion? If so that sucks. I dont have the knowledge/patience to do something like that, and with my luck no matter what I did it would go wrong. I was looking at the JDM D15B engine but since it needs the wiring conversion I guess I will have to try and settle for getting something like a D16Y7?

Re: Re: What needs to be done to swap 88 crx si motor into a 90 civic hb?
direct bolt in means the stock engine mounts will work. anything you drop into a DX will need the MPFI wiring done. to avoid that you would need to swap into the crx Si which is already MPFI
i know, wiring sounds scary but i know thousands of people who have done it. as i mentioned before go to www.4thGenerationCivic.com and in the how-to section there is a write up (from Sport Compact Mag)...it will explaine to you how DPFI/MPFI works and pretty direct instructions on how to do it. don't say you can't do it until you at least read the article.

Re: What needs to be done to swap 88 crx si motor into a 90 civic hb?
Ok cool thanks for the clarification on that Lady. I have found another 91 civic HB 155k miles on d15b1. Nothing special for now but come this fall Il be getting into a good deal of money and prolly buy the JDM D15B. I found one on the net somewhere for around 650-800 w/ tranny, that a good deal? Also on that 91 civic the guy said it had an exhaust leak near "the back", does that prolly jsut mean the pipe itself? What would I do to repair that just get a new exhaust? Thanks guys/gals for your time and patience.
