What is better?

What can i get better acceleration with? Single 44 carb, or dual 30s? i have an 1835cc engine but it only tops out at 90 from what I have seen. any help?

my stock 1600 does better than 90, and it's a single 39pict 3 solex. sounds like a bigger problem than carbs i think. i can get over 90 with my little set up, and i don't think it's had any big work done before i got it. that was all during the test drives.

Carbs are only 1/2 of the equation. You can have the biggest carbs made to pump air and fuel into the engine, but it won't do any good if you can't get the air out.

A full flow exhaust may help get a few more MPHs. It also depends on the gearing in the transmission.

My '69, bone stock, with a 1600 SP and 30/31 carb can get to 90. But I rarely find the occasion where it's necessary.

Hmmmm, if you are running the stock carb on a bigger motor have you re-jetted? If you are using the stock jets you are running WAY lean, and are in danger overheating your motor. You have to match up the carb or carbs, heads (valve size, port/polish, valve spring pressure) cam, and exhaust. With your size motor you could use a 1 3/8 inch header with the stock heater boxes or 1 1/2 with J-tubes. Use a good size muffler too. Carbs generally go like this...
If you use one two barrel carb you get more torque at low speed because the air speeds up going all the way through the intake manifold, BUT top out sooner than a PAIR of carbs (about 4000 rpm). A pair of carbs flow more air at higher RPM, BUT you have to have a cam and heads that will take advantage of this. Both setups will take advantage of a bigger exhaust. Oh yeah, you HAVE to have dual port heads to get more horses. Anybody got any suggestions or see a flaw in my reasoning or thoght process?

I have upgraded everything on the engine its dual port and i had just bought a stock muffler to keep it quiet but i think with the dual carb and maybe a better cam shaft i can really feel the difference. ill reply as soon as i find anything out.

yueah, the exhaust sounds right. i didn't think of that either. you obviously aren't looking to keep the "cute" bug sounds, so yeah, a bigger exhaust would be good.
