Head Gasket Replacement.

Hello, is posible to change the head gaskets without removing the engine from the car?

87 Golf GTI 8V 1.8
5 Speed.

And, is there any manual or instructions on how to perform such task?

I think that i need the gaskets because i just buy this car, change spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, battery.... anyway, couple days and the car start blowing white smoke. I hope is the gaskets and no the head. So i'll try this, if anybody have any help, it'll be welcomed.

Head comes off w/o removing the engine. I'd get a manual, Bentley is the best but any will work. Have the head checked at a machine shop for warpage & cracks.
