Cool Rear air deflector (spoiler)

Just got one from a friend for my ZJ. Looks good, only down side is that 2 screws hold them in along with double sided tape. Anyone ever put this on without screws. If this breaks i dont want 2 holes on top my liftgate

Re: Rear air deflector (spoiler)

Do you have any pics of it? Please email me some if you do. If it looks good, I might get one myself.

Re: Rear air deflector (spoiler)

cant send no pics now but its made of hard plastic and has a tinted dark smoke look. sort of what the window rain deflectors look like but more sturdy. it mounts on top of the liftgate and goes from end to end. Looks real gansta. Check cardomain.com there's a black 93.

Double-sided tape..that's funny! If you want the deflector to come flying off in traffic, smash into that Mercedes AMG behind you (your insurance isn't enough to cover damage to that car), then go right ahead! Heck, you may be able to create a decapicating device that rivals the one that killed Jane Mansfield!

And just screwing it into the back gate on your Jeep isn't enough either. Those tiny screws will come ripping right out of there.

So, how do you install the wind deflector the RIGHT way?
Well, go to your local Jeep dealership and ask for something called RivNuts. You will need as many as you have screw holes for. I can get a part number and picture of what they look like.

Why is this necessary? Well, when you install the RivNut, it expande inside the skin of the body and does two things; spreads the stress of the wind induced pull trying to rip the deflector off of the Jeep, and it creates a water-proof seal between the Jeep body skin and what may lie underneath.

You will need to drill holes. I can't remember the size, but I think they were 1/4 inch to perhaps 3/8 inch wide...
Once drilled, push in the RivNut, place the gasket between the Jeep body and the stansions on the deflector, insert the RivNut screws and tighten down. It will be tough going because you are compressing the metal cage of the RivNut to spread out and hold it in place. Kinda like an expanding drywall screw.
Once you get this done, that wing will stay in place forever...

I'll update this post later on when I get to my server that has the rivnut information on it.
