87 Newyorker bogs badly
Got an 87 NeeewYorker, 2.2L W/Turbo that bogs badly when pressing
the accelerator. You have to back off on the pedall a little to get it to go. Have changed fuel filter,Distributor Cap, Distributor module,Rotor, Wires, plugs.Fixed one large vacuum hose leak. This improved things considerbly performance and gas milage, but still wants to bog when you step on it. What now? (;>) Thanks! John |

Re: 87 Newyorker bogs badly
I'm not 100%, but is your car carbureted or fuel injected? I thought it could be fuel injected w/ a single injector in the throttle body.

Re: 87 Newyorker bogs badly
You are going to want to check the connections on you Throttle Position Sensor and Automatic Idle Speed sensor. Then take each sensor out, and clean in with some carb spray. Dont "douse" it, just give it a good cleaning and blow it off. However, your problem really sounds like a bad Throttle Pos. sensor. Do you have any codes stored? Have you changed the fuel filter lately? What grade of fuel are you using? For the 2.2 Turbo 1 engine, 92 octane is recommended by Chrysler. Anything less will effect performance and trust me- on my 87 New Yorker - I can tell the difference RIGHT away with the different grades.

At this point I can floor it from stop and it takes off up to about 25 mph. If I take off half throttle it bogs. Almost like a restriction in intake or exhaust?? Got me. Thanks |
