Exclamation To Anybody With A Z34 Lumina!! Please Read!!!!!!

I NEED HELP ASAP!
I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW, AND EVER SINCE I GOT IT, I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO REV OVER 3,000 RPMS. NOW... IS MY CAR RETARDED, OR DO ALL Z34'S HAVE AN RPM LIMITER ON THEM????

I need to know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! I am having my engine pulled to be cleaned and boared next week (racing season is coming up) and I NEED to know if that is something I'll need to fix as well, or if ALL Z34s have it!

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!

PLEASE, GET BACK TO ME, BY E-MAIL!!!! at [email protected]

THANX A MILLION!!!!!!

not just Z34's, all lumina's (in fact all 3.4 and 3.1 engines) have a rev limiter if you are in park, that will not allow you to rev above 3000 rpm (unless you have a custom chip burned to raise or remove the limiter).... it's normal.

Wow. I didn't know that. I thought he was talking about while driving. I was straining my brain tryin' to figure how he runs a 14 sec quarter and not go over 3000 rpm. I feel better now.

Re: To Anybody With A Z34 Lumina!! Please Read!!!!!!

it was a mystery to me too.... When I first got my lum, I had done a full tune-up, and I was just sittin' there, kinda revvin' the engine, enjoying the sound. But everytime it would hit 3000 it would hit a wall and fall. So I called a buddy of mine, who has owned nothing but luminas since man walked the earth (let him tell it), and he confirmed it, there is a limit. Sometime ago, while searching the j/y for a chip, i grabbed a 3.1 chip and put it into my 3.4. For some strange reason, it will let the engine rev to 4000 rpm, though it idled really crappy.

Allright you guys, joke's over

I just tried your theory out on mine ('97 LS 3.1), it will freely rev to 4 grand+ in neutral or park.

You guys must be talking about either:

Older models
3.4 DOHC's or
Manual Transaxle models

I admit it would make sense on an MTX model, to keep you from grenading the motor if you missed a hard throttle upshift. Is that what you're talking about?

Or were you just trying to see if I was dumb enough to go dynamite my motor to find out if you're right?

Good one, guys.

I have a 96 3.1L and it too won't let you rev over about 4k rpm.

my 90' will let me rev to +4000 in park, (although not much past) and so will my 96 (3.1 MPI and 3.1 SFI, respectively)
