Lift Kit and Engine questions

I have a 1993 YJ, 5 speed, inline 6, with 85k miles. But as soon as I get the problems fixed I will be selling it for a 1993-95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I find being over 6' tall, that these jeeps are just too small. Sure they are fun, you can take the top off, and you have a smaller turning radius. Slight advatage offroading in wooded area's, with the small size of these jeeps. But to stuff 2 adults in the back is a joke.
Along with all the junk I haul around with me.

My questions are for the 1993-1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee....

Do companies sell suspension lift kits and body lift kits for this vehicle?

Which engine is more reliable the 4L 6 cylinder, or the V8?
Which one is more powerful?

What kind of gas mileage do you get?

I am also looking for a body kit, to change the look. I remember seeing on television they had a mid 90's Yukon, they made it look like an Escalade. the main thing I want is to change the front look of the grand cherokee to have it look like the front of a Chev Avalanche.

Thanks for your help. Have a great day.

Re: Lift Kit and Engine questions

You can buy suspension lifts for the ZJ, there are many companies that makes the lift, but not a body lift. as for the engine, the 5.2 has alot more power then the 4.0L no doubt, as for the most dependable, it depends on who you ask, I have a 94 ZJ w/ 5.2L and I find it very dependable, I did end up replacing it last summer (a serious overheating problem which I let go b/c I was waiting to change engines b/c of the high milage) but the engine still ran real strong before the incident, the old ones had just under 200,000 miles and my new one only had 50,***. well each engine (4.0L and 5.2L) has their own problems... Milage wise the 4.0L would be the way to go, my 5.2 gets just under 10 MPG, the average for the 4.0L (from what I have read in past threads) is about 16-17 MPG, let it be known that some ppl have gotten around 15 MPG with the 5.2L and also I seen a guy get about 21 MPG in his 4.0L..

In the end, if you want the power and don't mind the gas milage then I would go with the 5.2L (I have it and I love it Iw ould never give it up for the 4.0L), don't get me wrong the 4.0L is a great engine and has pretty decent power but doesn't have the power of the V8.

I have not seen any body kits for a ZJ.

There are no body lifts for the ZJ because they are a unibody construction. There are several suspension lifts available for the 93-98 though. Ranging from a 1 or 2" spring spacer( called a budget boost or BB) to 6+ inches from a long arm set up. If you want lift info check out http://www.nagca.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=7 these guys are geared towards off-roading Jeep Grand Cherokees. Read some posts there regarding lifts, they tend to be a bit harsh on newbs though. Do you reading before posting :-) And they will NOT be helpful in finding body kits to alter the looks. I have the 5.2 and get about 13-15 mpg. I believe in those years the 5.2 had 220hp/300 ft/lb and the 4.0 had 185hp/220ft/lb

About your comment of the body kit, I myself have not seen one yet. But one thing that you could do if you do get a Grand Cherokee is to change the front grill. I have a 93 Grand Cherokee 4.0 and I installed a stull billet grill. It gives it a new look. Also get the clear corners and put some HID lighting. And for the back if you can find them I would recommend the eurolite altezza. Not alot of jeeps have these clear lights in the back yet. True the 5.2 has alot more power then the 4.0, and yeah gas wise its more $$$ to fill up a V8. I get about 14 MPG right now. My friend has the limited edition 5.9, he gets about 9MPG. I driven it before and its FAST........So hopefully this will help you.

Re: Lift Kit and Engine questions

why would you want to put body kits and euro lights on a Jeep? especially if you plan to wheel it at all. or do you just want to be one of those pavement princesses?

No its not a pavement princess. Read my post and tell me where I say that I have put a body kit on my jeep. No I dont off road there is no need for a 4x4 when you only drive in the city. About the Euro Lites you could say its for the looks, you have to change it a bit when you have money and when the jeep has 22 IN rims.
Actually, you are the "dumb" one. My comments were towards the person who started this thread. But hey, if the shoe fits....

As for your comment about having money, dream on kid. Look at my list of past cars. And I have a custom set of HRE wheels on the Mazda that cost more than most people make in a month http://www.hrewheels.com/welcome/

Granted, most people can't afford both a street car and offroad rig, but they suit me well. I'll continue to enjoy living the good life while you waste away.

Lets see 1990 Mazda, piece of crap. If you say you have $$$ why dont you get yourself a new car. You dont make alot of sense. Yeah I looked at the list of your past cars. What happend you did not have enough money to spend on insurance ? or you could not afford to have them all at the same time ? I dont need to list all the cars I have in my possesion at this moment or either put the cars that I had in the past. Why would anyone purchase wheels that cost more then the vehicle ? LOL ummm yeah thats right only mx52nv would do such an idiotic action like that. SO go on little boy play with your micro-machine. Hehehe.....

The Mazda has about 15 grand invested and runs in the 11's. The car and all parts were paid for in cash, so why would I get another? Not to mention it's a NOPI sponsored show car. My past cars were all paid for and either sold or wrecked but looking at getting another Porsche next year. I have the $20k deposit for a GT3, but would rather sell a few more houses and pay cash for it. As for the HRE wheels, they are the best in the world. I buy and sell investment properties for a living, so I can afford the toys I want in life. So no, insurance is not an issue for me. You have to realize that some people don't waste money on drinking and partying. I bought the Porsche at age 19 when most guys are being stupid.
