help ASAP..... 97 in a 65

Hi,
Im 18 i was goin down to huston from dallas, tx with my girlfriend to see her mom. I was crousing like 85 and i dont know what happend but i croused up to 97mph (cops speed) I got nailed. Now i dont know what to do. Should i plead guilty and see what happends but i would like to keep it off my insurance? or should i plead not guilty and see what happens in court? Im 18 and have never had a ticket before. And would really love to keep this off my insurance.

Your best bet is probably a lawyer...32 over the limit is wreckless driving in most states, and you're going to have a tough time keeping that off your insurance by yourself.

Re: help ASAP..... 97 in a 65

check out www.beatmyspeedingticket.com

It has some good advice, also has a $30 book, whether you want to pay for it and give it a try is up to you, but the free advice on the website is good advice. Also a lawyer is probably a good idea. I'd challenge it, to at least get it reduced...ie, not guilty.
Also check out the other threads in this section, as this happens rather often.

any judge is not going to be leniant to 32 over. Best bet is to get a lawyer. My bet is you will have your license suspended.

my god people....
if you know you were breaking the law/speed limit then at least take it like a man.
has it ever occured to you that it's people who break the law then whinge their way out it is what makes traffic cops harder against the rest of us?

plead guilty, you deserve it. 5 mph over the limit isn't so bad, 10 is alright if traffic is light, but people like you make me sick, you're needlessly endangering innocent people. Have you any idea how much longer it takes to stop when you're going nearly 100 than if you're going 65?

Stay off the road.

Re: help ASAP..... 97 in a 65

hold on there.....
just cos he was speeding doesn't mean he was dangerous.
don't do what the politicians do and equate the two together.
be sensible and use you brain; that's why god (or what ever deity you worship and that includes traffic lights....) gave us one.

my point is, despite what you may or may not think about speed limits, you know what the limits are.
if you do break that limit, i hope you are sensible about when it is safe and when it is not as well as know full well that it is illegal and if you get caught, you will be punished.

You'd feel different if someone doing nearly 100 rear-ended you.

In Indiana, we have a one time deferrment that can only be used once.
My kids have all used it for various traffic violations. Two used it for "speeding" and my son used it for "under age drinking" - he was NOT driving. Anyway, there is a fine - you plead guilty but ask for a deferrment and you MUST NOT have another offense up to one year or it is ALL revoked. It's worth looking into at that speed since it's your first offense. By the way, I also agree - speed depends upon the road conditions, traffic conditions and safety of course. We ALL mess up from time to time. Good luck!

Re: help ASAP..... 97 in a 65

if someone rear ended you doing 100 mph then something is very wrong if he is unable to slow down.
besides, that is the typical bullshit rational that anti-speed people spout all of the time.
the truth is, yes speed has the potential to make things more dangerous
but
on an empty dual carriageway at 3am with nothing to hit for 50 miles in front or behind you.
is 100 mph dangerous?
formula 1 cars go 100+ for 2 hours straight and you hardly ever see an accident.
rally drivers do the same over absolutely treacherous terrain and real accidents are incredibly rare.

speed isn't the real factor here; it's dangerous driving.
dangerous driving can be at 10mph.

I'm thinking that driving 100+ is dangerous wether there are any other cars around or not.... Think of how long it would take to stop...

Yes... and to whoever said something about professional racers... formula one cars are DESIGNED to go that fast, rally cars have rollcages and are also designed to be put through quite a bit of punishment.

Average Joe street car is not designed for that. I don't care what you say, oh German cars are for the Autobahn, etc., crash testing takes place at 45.

Suspensions probably couldn't take it either, unless you didn't ever need to turn or swerve to avoid something.

And stopping distance, yes. I take it you've never been in heavy traffic in the rain? Just slowing down quickly from 55 to 35 can take a LOT of room... that's just slowing down by 20mph. Imagine 100 to 0 on dry road then.

There are those who think because you have a car that can go 140 means why the hell not? There are those who are rational, and wouldn't do that Thusly, I'm going to unsubscribe from this post, have a nice day.
