first spin after head gasket replacement

so i took the 300 out today after the replacement of the head gasket that started about two months ago

smoke puffing out the valve cover is kinda discouraging allthough everybody i talk to say that its burn off

it was just burn off wheww pop pop fiz fiz ohh what a releife it is lol

boy and i thought that i was gonna have to take the heads back off and have them milled

i thought well maybe everybody is right so ill take it out and see so i warmed her up and made sure alll the lights work shoot i gotta replace a rear brake oh well

so i replace the buldb and take her to ther pavement ( after shes warm though)

i take it about a half mile no hessitation or nothin hmmm

was my head gasket replacement a success???

so i turn around after about half a mile and before i get to the stop sign on the road i was turning around on i dump the clutch and romp on her

let off and i approach the stop sign hmm i chuckle as my freind says that she sounds pretty nice

before he gets it all out of his mouth i dump the clutch again and begin a launching powerslide out the gate (lol the race is on)
i grab second and watch the boost gauge with little satisfaction my boost creep is back it launches to 10 then creeps to 12 shoot
need to put the old spring back on the pretty chromy is too sloppy lol

but anyway i still need to adjust the timing anmd by the way what should i have the timing set to?? im gonna be running 12 psi boost

i had to put a 3" muffler on it wow theres a difference its quiter than stock oh wait at 4000 rpm shes a little louder lol
had to put something to quite her down for the neibors

well anybody know a sweet spot for the timing ???

Re: first spin after head gasket replacement

Theres a good write up on TT.net about timeing tweeks. I personally dont care for them but thats becuase I drive a NA, and as it stands right now I dont need to adjust my timeing.

It's like waking up from a fever to find it's finally broken. Refreshing. Always nice to have the weight off your shoulders. Now don't get caught,... too much anyway.

Re: first spin after head gasket replacement

yeah but you ever wake up after a fever and find out the slut next to you has a std (no not really) but now it knocks on start up like 4 knocks and at 2700 to 3300 it seems to tick ????
and the smoking from the valve cover is gone so i know its sealed
power is still there though????
and after 3 days of HARD A$$ driving (about 80 miles mopstly under 10psi boost) the low oil pressure is back shilly gotta change it and not sizzle it so quick lol

i tried to remove the rocker shafts and rerapply them with no avail shilly they both sit so perrty lol

Re: first spin after head gasket replacement

as i talk to myself yet again..
well unfortanately i think i spun a bearing in the bottom

tried swapping everything of the top end and no luck
tick is now a nock im almost positive its the bearings... so i guess i gotta go to the junk yard and find a vg30 hmmm hopefully theres a pathfinder .... if not does a maximas motor mounts bolt on different or do they just have different mounts and the bolt holes are still there? does anybody know???
and i know its na turbo + na motor= about a week of hold on drifts
well i dont know it might last ill just keep the boost around 4 and see what i think if it wants more ill advance the timing a bit more aand give iot 8 and then well see what thats like wanna run them lol
so i guess if anybody knows about the compatibility is if not

any other v-6's that got the same exausrt manifold bolt patern (the turbo side thart is lol) how about a 4 lol all it has to do is have that size injectors(the ports, i think they all do untill newer lol, and thwe same bolt patteren as the turbo lol and bell housing

damn lol ok vg30 it is lol fwd bolt up??????

Re: first spin after head gasket replacement

maybe you should stop destroying your engine... that might keep it on the road a little longer... how about an rb20? you can get them for pretty cheap and they're solid motors, usually stock boosted...

are you trying to tell me not to push it to the brink of distuction , and maybe a little farther lol.
i think that it was spun during the headgasket trauma, or atleast the mayo probably did itin at about 7000 r's..
so i guess ill get a na motor out the junk yard and try and keep the boost a little low and see if i cant get about the same power with lower boost..
and in the process ill pull mine out and see what i can do .
and for a kiker since i think this may be a reoccuring problem im gonna yank my toasted nba out my 86 and see if i cant use the bearings outa that so ittl be free and i can waste it again lol and again and again
lol no not really this winter i think im gonna spend 700 and rebuild one a little better
high performance bearings fully sealed rings port the heads maybe even some new valve springs and a cam well have to see how much $$$ i got then
but anyway what would the fun be in driving if there was nmno drift????
not as much
but at any rate i hope to have it back to the street in 3 weeks this time so even though im gonna cancel the insurance ill probably just pull it out and take it to the car wash after wards lol

do you really think they can even get within anything m,ore than that of an earshot???
hell they got those doors that pull down so you can clean and wash and dry that thing in a no dirt and wind type of deal lol

Re: first spin after head gasket replacement

note the after the fever comment it was knocking at start up i should have dropped the pan and clean them upbut i guess that is what its all bout should haves and what ifs lol but i had a hell of a fun ride though
drifted a 40' drift spun arounbd and drifted back 40' and then around a corner and i also overlayed the drift it was so fat the biggest gap was like 2' for about 8' of tyhe drift and it was a constant drift no stop iof the spin and it was a long swing and as short swing both almost identicle3 it was awsome

wait till shes rebuilt ill get my buddy to cam it and ill post it on here lol
wanna drift??
