Thumbs down Eighty Eight HVAC Problems

Hey all. Pretty new to this board, I'm a spillover from the Aurora board. I've got a 1994 Olds Eighty Eight Royale with the manual climate control, and about a year ago, it stopped working correctly. It still blows correctly, the knobs all work, the buttons work correctly, but the fan setting won't change (i.e. the internals are stuck on the "Defog" setting physically and air only has two setting: off and blowing out of the base of the windshield and floor simultaneously). We guessed that it was the control module in the dash, so I bought one cheap on eBay ($15) and replaced it to no effect. I believe I have tracked the part down. I think it's the blower control module in the dash behind the glovebox. I have a pretty good idea of how to replace this, and I need to know the part number so I can check GMPartsDirect.com for a replacement. Does anyone know this information or where I can find it? I don't particularly want to go to the dealer because I know they will overcharge, not to mention I know I can do this job myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Eighty Eight HVAC Problems

Hello.Did you think to look at a vacume hose that goes to the fire wall? I accendently pulled mine out during a spark plug change,Then when I went to use the a/c the next day,No air thru dash vents! I thought that I had selector problems,Cause all I had was air blowing out defrost vents. Then I got looking under hood and found vacume hose disconnected. Look to the right of the brake booster and just below the maxi fuse center. You will find a couple of hoses that plug into fire wall.Check it out! My Olds is the same year as yours,And had simular problem! Did not cost a penny to fix! Let me know what you find.Diesel 1962

Thanks for the quick response! However, the problem is not a lack of air. There's plenty of air coming through into the dash ducting, it's just not coming out the correct vents. The fan-speed and air-temperature selectors still work, and turning the main selector knob to "off" shuts it off as advertised, but none of the other settings on that knob change anything as they are supposed to. I'm pretty sure it's this motor, as the vacuum hoses all look intact (at least what I could trace into the dash of them, as it's a maze past the horizontal line of faux wood trim!).
