IP doing absolutely nothing!
Ok, so I've gone through just about everything (see all my previous posts on bad stop solenoids) and after putting a priming bulb on the inlet line and squeezing like hell (already checked for leaks) while cranking, nothing comes out of the IP. I've even removed the fuel rails to the injector to see if it might be clogged there, but nothing - not a drop comes out of the fuel rail ports. When i short the stop solenoid, it clicks very loud, so I'm pretty sure it can't be that, but I don't have the correct wrench to remove it. Any other ideas? I can't believe that the IP is so far gone that narry a drop comes out, but could it be? Thanks -

Well, it's as I suspected. I finally got the stop solenoid out, and it works absolutely fine. Just for kicks, I screwed it back in minus the plunger so there would be absolutely no way it could stop the flow. I cranked and cranked (while madly pumping the primer bulb), and still nothing came out (the fuel rails are completely disconnected at this point).
So, it looks like somehow the IP has stopped not only pumping but allowing any fuel through whatsoever. Looks like I'm in the market for a new (used) IP... does anyone know what year range I can use (for my '79 1.5l)? I'm tempted to take the old one apart, just to see what has me so knackered. Anybody ever peeked into the dark abyss of one of these? I found an article online, but it wasn't very helpful. |

If you take it apart it will require alot of special tools to get back together (working) again. I'd look for a clog in the tank or fuel line.

There's no clog - fuel flows freely from the tank. I used the priming bulb to set up a siphon to drain some of the fuel from the tank; no problem. I've drained the pump & filled it with SeaFoam in an attempt to loosen whatever is stuck inside. I'll give it a few days and see what happens...

have you checked the bolts that go through the banjo fittings? the one with large holes should be nearest to the timing belt and the one with the small hole (almost invisible) should be on the top of the pump (and marked out for easy reference). just for kicks i once exchanged these and had no problem starting the engine, but the car would not go over 30mph. also check the small hole for blockage (hey, it could happen...). well, that is if you can find it, that baby is about the size if a hair! will the engine start if you fill the pump with a *clean* combustable liquid? (automatic trans. fluid works well for this, as does light engine oil mixed with diesel fuel additive or straight diesel fuel additive). i think i'd advise against disassembling the pump just because of the apparent lack of repair manuals for these things. it is almost as if you have to be elected into an eliete circle to be able to get repair kits or complete literature on the subject.

almost forgot, did you obtain the car in non-running condition, or was it running before the problem surfaced?

Non- running condition. And the pump doesn't work at all - if I pull the fuel rack, not a drop comes out. I'm buying another pump.

Did you try removing the top plug or fuel return from the injectors & fill the pump from there?
