Door Problem

i got an s-10 and im takin the doors and fenders off to put on mine cause mine are junk. I got the 1 door off but the pins on the other one wont come out, I beated the hell outta them and they wont budge! any Suggestions would help thanks!

Use a bigger hammer.(Just kidding) You might be able to cut the pins with a dremel tool with a cut off disk, or maybe use a sawzall type reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade if you have room or use a torch. Use all new pins and bushings for the swap. Don't forget to compress the spring first.

Try some WD40(or other)and make sure the clips are off.You can also have somebody wiggle the door up and down while you beat on it.

I used the biggest hammer we could get back there lol. we tried a cut off wheel and it wouldnt fit, we tried wd40 and they wouldnt budge. were can i get the new pins at for it?

I use my air hammer and compressor with a "modified" punch bit. I took a pointed punch bit and put a "groove" in it with my grinder and put it under the pin and apply slow pressure at first to get it moving then increase the pressure till it is almost out, then wiggle the door and pull on the pin at the same time. It takes some practise, but I've got it down to an artform now; and I can do it myself.

I just got my door bushings, and pins from a friend of mine that owns a bodyshop. He just got them from the local aftermarket parts store.

They can be a booger to get out....... There are some retainer clips that need to be popped off the pins... just pry em off with a screw driver. What happens is the door shifts slightly as you try to pull the pins.... gotta have a floor jack if you're doing this yourself (make life a bit easier) .... and the pin gets hung up in the indentations from the clips you popped off. You can bang on that sucker 'til the cows come home and that pin ain't goin' nowhere. A slow and careful approach is needed to position the door so the pin doesn't get hung up on the hinge.....

as was said before make sure the retainer clips are off, and get a jack under the latch end of the door just jack it up a hair to take the tension off of the pins then whack'em with your hammer, I did mine this exact way with no help. just get ready to hold the door and watch out for the spring, mine didnt come flyin at me but you never know, or take it out before you get the door off. if you get the pin part way out and it seems to get stuck like everybody else said wiggle the door or readjust the jack.

Sounds like you forgot the retainer pins to me...

I found that it was easier to take the bottom pins out first, then the top. If you have the top pin out, put it mostly in, and then go at the bottom one.

I'm actually cheating with my Blazer and just letting a friend of mine that owns a bodyshop do then. Besides I bought a nice used set of doors from him which he's installing.

But I'm told that you only want to remove 1 pin at a time, and install the new one before you take the next 1 out.

If I was going to replace my doors myself I would take 1 out and slide in a nail or bolt that fits snuggly.

my friend is charging me an hours wage, so probably about 80.00 Canadian, but only charged me 30.00 per door.
I don't know how much he'll want to paint the door interior since they don't match, but I'm re-painting the exterior anyways

You have to do both pins at the same time. If you don't you will be definetely be bending something; most likely the hinge bracket that cannot easily be replaced if disfigured too much.

I take that back, you can replace ONLY THE PINS one at a time, but you need to replace the bushings as well. They are located in between the two hinge brackets, so the door must be pulled off. It wouldn't be wise to replace just your pins, it's most likely your bushings are shot as well.

then try getting a couple of 8 gauge duplex nails. They have 2 heads so it's easy to take them out after you get the second pin pulled.
Just use the 1 to suport the hinge theat you just removed the pin from. 8 gauge is pretty thich, and will probably fit in there snuggly
