97 silverado interior lights
My interior lights won't work when either or both doors are open, all work fine with the switch. The ignition key alarm works fine when the key is left in the switch and the door is opened this makes me delieve the door switches are good. Any suggestions?

hmmm..the dome overide switch isn't pushed in or bad, for that matter, is it?

Re: 97 silverado interior lights
Are the door switches stuck in the open position (electrically open, where they are when the doors are closed)?

Re: Re: 97 silverado interior lights
when the doors are closed the button in the switch pushes in, they are mounted on either side of the dash. I can put the key in the ignition and press the switch and the buzzer for the key will go on and off correctly. Doesn't this rule out the door switches? Maybe a wire is off? It only bothers me at night. ha

Well that stupid feeling was justified, I found the overide button. That was it, problem solved. Thanks for bringing it to my attention I was just befre ripping the dash out to trace wiring.

Re: 97 silverado interior lights
Yeah, that overide switch is really pointless. I haven't seen one on any other vehicle. Leave it to GM I guess.

Re: 97 silverado interior lights
ok, just had to say this...lol....i found the over ride switch very useful when my dang door switches screwed up and i used the OR switch to kill the lights until i got time to fix it....other than that, i agree, useless....lol

A Looong time ago when I was a teenager, we used to take a short piece of an old hacksaw blade and mount it on one of the screws that held the door switch on. This could be turned to hold the button in which kept the inside lights off. This was for parking on lovers lane with the door open. I guess the override switch is there for that reason. Bob B |
