Question fan clutch?

Right now my fan it's running in high speed all the time, the engine services light came out with the code P0495, "cooling fan high speed" , I disconected the power on it, and nothing change, I checked the power signal it's ok, anyone with the same trouble? I have to change the fan clutch?

Re: fan clutch?

Yup. Sounds like your fan clutch locked up and is stuck on high. You are going to have to replace the clutch fan unit.

Re: fan clutch?

this happen when you get a second hand car, you don't really know what your buying " a box of surprises", am still working on the a/c problem, seems to be a sensor, because the a/c runs all the time, never stop and every time goes coler and colder, and think that is the real reason of the problem. I dont want to go to the dealer ship, and hear fairy tales a cost $$$$$. and at the end its a simple bolt.
any sugest will be helpful.

Lightbulb Re: Re: fan clutch?

You are probably not aware the that the fan clutch is electronically controlled. I just had mine replaced on my 2002 Bravada. There is also programming upgrades that went with it. My chevy dealership here in Utah took care of the whole thing for about $500 ( I bought an extended warranty) If it is just a matter of reprogramming the Controller module it should only be around $90.

I was told that the fan clutch on an Envoy sometimes needs to be reprogramed rather than replaced.
Is there a difference as to the way they act if this is the case.
Mine sometimes will kick in after driving for an hour or so and stay on for 10 mins and may not come on again for 2 days.
Any thoughts?

GM has come out with a new updated fan. The part number is 15293048. If you replace with any other part, you are just putting in another part that will fail soon. The PCM also get a reprogram.
