APEXi V-AFCII or any APEXi unit on D17s
i recently bought a APEXi V-AFCII from a friend, its brand new, but when calling a online tuner store for looking for pulleys and talking to the guy about the new find he told me,. APEX can't get the D17s down right using AFCs and i'll have nothing but problems and that i should just sell the unit, take the money and pick another mod. what do you guys think, and please tell me you know someone or are running one of these units. and if thats the case, i could use some pointers on some basic settings your running. my car '01 civic EX sedan 5spd. intake/header/pulley/exhaust. thanks

Re: APEXi V-AFCII or any APEXi unit on D17s
Opinions vary on that topic- I for one do not support using the V-AFCII (the only one that works correctly) on our cars. ITs like beating a dead horse. The car is set to engage at the correct RPM no need to change it. Which pully did you get? That also has no effect on a D17 engine its just eye candy. If you plan on racing the car I would suggest boosting it first then worry about a vtec controller/e-manage system, being that there is no ECU upgrades for our engines. I believe Hondata cut the project and is not producing products for the 7th gen. If your interestig in doing some readin on the topic/ installing it yourself here is a DIY wireing diagram.

about the pulley; unorthodox ultra street lightened underdrive crank pulley. their claim: 2hp is gained for each pound taken from the setup, this accounts for 85% of the gain, then they're underdriven slightly (not enough hurt accessories) that nets the other 15% since the oem pulley is around ten pounds in theory we net 16.5hp at the flywheel. performancecenter claims 6-10hp regained for D17, regardless mod is felt bigtime on the road, throttle is very quick, runs smooth as glass all the way up, vtec engagement is now felt with a smack, not just heard. as for other sets ie. AEM, ya i feel they're just eye candy. but i really like unorthodox, well made, less than 200 bucks, highly recommend. |

What most peope use the vafc for is air/fuel adjustment, without new cams changing the vtec engagment is pointless. But almost every car out there can squeze a few extra hp out of a/f adjustment.

^^ Would you recommend using E-manage instead?

do the new D have the harmonic balancer built into the crank pulley like the old ones? Cause if they do, switching out the crank pulley for one without the harmonic balancer will cause damage to your engine.

Well ill be a monkeys uncle... I thought for sure they would have some sort of ecu upgrade for yalls d17's. They are pretty popular engines, more so than the k20a3 in my si. Oh well, e-manage all the way!

Dude i had a pretty good understanding of what a harmonic damper does, but that article is kick ass. If I had to use one word to sum it up it would have to be "pimptastic"
