3.3 and 3.8 Same Trans.???

Can anyone tell me for sure if a 3.3 trans. in a Grand Caravan is the same as the 3.8 trans.? Mine is out in my GC with a 3.8. (It was wrecked and broke the housing..) The Hollander / Junk yard guys say they are not the same, and want many more $$ for the 3.8 trans. (They are not nearly as plentiful around here.) Everything I'm reading and by looking at them, they look the same to me, but I'd hate to go through changing it to find out it won't work.

Has anybody done this??

Thanks in advance, Gary.

the 3.3 and 3.8 are the same block, so a tranny out of either one is interchangable.

We actually have quite a few in junkyards in my neck of the woods (Central Ohio) A lot of them are the 3.3 / 4 Spd. combo. So the prices are fairly reasonable.

I've seen a lot of negative posts regarding these transmissions, but they've always held up ok for me. The key is to change the fluid regularly and always, always, always, use the right fluid. (ATF +3) And, make sure that if you have a prob., the diagnosis is correct. I once bought a real nice LeBaron Convt. (cheap) that was diagnosed as needing a trans., it turned out to be a bad relay. (Cost me about 5 bucks to fix......) :-)

Thanks, Gary.
