First off, any help is appreciated. Today I took my 2003 Malibu on a trip. After the trip it was parked for about 3 hours. I started it and went down the road about 1 mile and lost all acceleration. The engine died and would not restart. DC power is not the issue, nor is gas. It is almost like the fuel pump went out. BTW the car only has 51,000 miles on it. Anyone had a similar issue?

when you first turn the car on you should be able to hear the fuel pump priming (kinda a humming sound) for a few seconds if you dont hear that then its probably shot which is pretty common among malibus

Thanks IGKYOA
It looks like a $500 bill if it is.

The culprit was the fuel pump. Final cost $388. Thanks GM.

Re: 2003 Malibu Quit
You guys need to learn to check fuel pump relays and fuel pump fuses etc. first before hiking straight off to the dealer. What if you find an unscrupulous dealer that all they did was plug in a fuse? As GMMerlin says - diagnostics is th first road to travel.

Are the fuel pump relay and fuse in the box under the hood?

The fuel pump fuse is in the fuse box by the brake fluid side of the car. There are also fuses inside of each door. The fuel pump relay is one of the 3 to 4 black cigarette like boxes near the windshield wiper arms on the firewall.
