Re: whats a good turbo?

if your just have a stock 14b you could go with a big 16g or a evo turbo.

Re: whats a good turbo?

If he's got a 99 GSX, his stock turbo is a T25... So just getting a 14b from a stock 1G would be a viable upgrade as well.

Re: whats a good turbo?

Depends if you can handle something that isn't bolton. There are good bolton 2g turbos for people who arent going to be modifying the fuel system.. T28, Big28, etc... for the rest of us, starting out with a new turbo is as simple as the EVO 16g.

Re: whats a good turbo?

FP big t28 killer ...good for about 350hp, direct bolt on so you won't have to go through the HELL (I know, i did it last week with my EVO III GT) of changing over from a garrett to a mitsubishi turbo. Thing will spool ultra fast, probably about 900 dollars. If you are looking for something cheaper, bullseye power has a complete turbo upgrade kit for about 700

Um, I don't know why your evo3b16g install was "hell", but it shouldn't be that bad at all. Putting a 14b/16g on a 2g is actually VERY simple. Hell, you don't even need to spend the money on an "install kit". All you really need are gaskets, a 1g or aftermarket j-pipe, and a SS oil feed line. I can't see where your install could have been "hell", but oh well.

I guess if you want to pay a lot of money for a turbo that will perform much less than other turbos of the same price (or cheaper in some cases), then you should go with a t28. If you're willing to drop $800 (brand new) for a t28, you might as well save yourself money and buy an evoIII 16g for $550 (brand new). The evoIII 16g will outperform the t28 quite easily.

Moral of the story: Don't get a t28

Re: whats a good turbo?

My car has like 103k miles, so I had a bitch of a times getting off a bunch of rusted bolts. The first time i did the install was with a 14b some guy sold me but it was bad, so I had to rip that off and buy a evo. I also bought a drain kit, but it did NOT fit, so i had to buy a 1g drain pipe. All in all, when i had all the parts together it only actually took about 4 hours for the install, but I had like 3 weeks of downtime inbetween waiting for parts, then waiting for more parts and fixing a nasty radiator leak. Lol the manifold bolts were on so bad that i actually broke some crafstman sockets trying to get it off.
