Ticking noise from intake or engine??

I got my timing belt changed and thanks to all who helped, now for a new problem. I have driven the escort a lot since the belt change and 3-4 days ago after work I started it and their was this ticking like noise that sounded like it was echoing thru the intake manifold. It was similar to a lifter noise but I pulled the valve cover and it is does not seem like a lifter. I put my ear down to the aluminum intake and it seemed to be echoing from inside it. I drove home and when I got their it had stopped. It has done it several times since then but only off and on. Mine is a 91 with a 1.9 liter. I recognized the noise right away because my sister car has the same problem. Hers is a 94 with a 1.9 also and hers started making the very same noise about 2 years ago. She took hers in and they said they would have to pull the head so she let it go and just drive it like it is. She has driven it for 2 years solid with the same noise and has had no driveability problems and it has not gotten any worse. Has anyone else had this problem?? Otherwise what else could it be?

I'd try an upper cylender cleaner like lucas gas treatment, marval mystery oil. Then something simple like an oil change.

Re: Ticking noise from intake or engine??

happens to mine, but strange that the noise stops after it fully warms up in approx. 1/2 or so. When i drive with the window and i come to a red light, i can hear it clearly. Still can't figure it out..

I have ran lucas thru it once and also ran 2 cans of seafoam thru it, One I ran thru the pcv valve while the engine was slightly revved and one in the gas tank. I also poured Rislone upper cylinder lubricant in the oil. All of this was done before the noise started. I have not noticed it now for a day or 2, maybe it just needed time to work?? Thanks for the reply and suggestions!

I read one time (forget if it was here or on label) saying may take 2 treatments. I could be wrong.

If I get my cam off one notch on the timing belt, I get a click. Double checking doesn't hurt.

Unhappy smoke at start up

When I first start my 1989 Escort in the morning I get a puff of smoke from the tailpipe which will last several blocks
I have been told by Auto Value that it is the valve seals./ What is actually involved to do this.
I have replaced the water pump and the timing belt, plus the front outer axle assembly.

Secondly I need a windshield for this car. I have searched the auto wreckers, but find one from a 1990 which seem to be very plentiful will not fit , it is a little smaller. Could Ford have retooled for this one year?(1989)
Thanks
James

The Rislone made short work of that hydraulic lifter sticking, but it does thin out your oil and maybe you should change it now that the lifter is unstuck. Castrol high-mileage is good.
