Unhappy 2000 impala ignition locked! someone help.

went to put in a 10 disc cd changer.. coulodnt figure it out so put everything back and the ignition switch is locked...I think.. cause the key goes all the way in but won't turn.. the lights come on and the door chimes... I am Thinking it is Passdlock or VATS system.. but I have no ideal what triggered it.. this is crazy....is that what it is? the ignition was fine before we took the dash apart to wire the cd changer. Is there anyway to just disable the stupid VATS/passlock or whater it is.. I hate it... If someone who steals cars for a living really wanted to steal it they would find a way!!!!! I don't want it.. this just keeps us honest people from using our own cars when something goes wrong.. can anyone help.. half the Chevy dealers I have called are soo stupid they are stumped as to why its not turning.. shouldnt they know if it has passlock/vats sytem on 2000 impala? help please....

Re: 2000 impala ignition locked! someone help.

I just bought my Impala last Friday.

Its an '05, and I am having the same issue. It only happens to me though, my husband can always get the key out. He says its because the car is not fully in the "PARK" position. So I plan to try that the next time it happens.

I also hear turning the wheel a hard left or right and then pulling out will unlock the cylinder, though this has not worked for me. Good luck. :-)
