Talking My New Display Cabinet and Models!!!

Im so stoked, spent the last 2 weeks making the display cabinet. Was going to buy one but was looking around and for the prices there wasnt much that matched my needs/WANTS!! So me and my brother (mainly him) made one...depending on how they are displayed you can fit up to around 20 per shelf....x6 shelves = PLENTY OF ROOM, as you can see i havent got many models yet to put in as my old models are being used as spares for the new ones. But ive got more in the line as you can see. Mainly mazda rotaries

I'd love to hear your comments on the display cabinet. Oh we decided to put another shelf in. so atm there is one shelf less until we order another one. and lights will be put in later on.

I think they all look good. Looks like you like Mazda's.

Very cool. I'm on my way to steal it. Great display with the rotor in there. That's really cool. And when you do the 787B - paint the green for the love of God!

Cool shelf.

On second glance, where does it open?

thanks for the great comments, its very refreshing after all this work to hear these comments.

the cabinet opens from the rear. I wanted an uninterupted view of the models from the front. and i can seal it off better from the rear as u cant see it. Also if my little annoying cousins come past they cant open it up....its on wheels so it isnt too difficult to slide out...

I dont know if im game enought to paint the green on the 787b, never done two colours with a can b4....787B wont be done for a while till i get my skills a bit better on less involved models.

Im going to go to a few rotor workshops and try and find a housing (rotor engine block) to put the rotor in. Im in sydney, and the rotor scene down here is pretty big. So finding one should be prety easy.

Nice work!

How much have you spent on building the cabinet?
I am still waiting to get one from Ikea that costs around $60. But, it is all sold out.

I wish I have a bro like yours.

yeah it is a bit pricey, but when i was looking around at shops and ebay. I didnt get anything i wanted for less than $800aus. So i just thought stuff it. do it once do it properly....and save at the same time

btw does anyone know if you can get low heat lights to use in the display cabinet?? im worried normal downlights may damage the cars.

Cheers
Frank

hey ROTA, i found something that would look pretty good in your cabinet.
(has pics)
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/mmi/mmi11201.htm
(Aussie site, click plastic kits, and search for brand "minicraft")
http://www.hobbyone.com.au

i remember seeing this a while ago, but i didn't have the cash for it.
i've never bought from any of those sites, so i don't know if they are any good or not.

Thanks for the link, i used to have one of them. And i contacted the hobbyone place to order one but they are sold out even though they are on the website. They are a very poor kit, majority of them do not work and are only good as stationary models. Even like that they arent the best as most parts need modifying just to get it together. But they are none the less an awesome model. If i can find a cheap one (spent WAAY too much money lately) ill get one. However rotary items are really hitting top dollar as of late.
