94 LS shocks/suspension

From new the Rodeo has always ridden like a truck, guess it is because it is one. The ride is stiff and I am getting tired of it and my back doesn't like it either. I can feel every stinking highway joint as I am going over them. I don't go offroad at all.
So, with the 89-97MY Rodeos has anyone done anything to improve the ride? I don't want to but if I have to replace springs I guess I will.
