Question 2000 GA won't start

my 2000 grand am will not start, symptoms are it cranks over but does not fire.
had it checked out at a shop, they said it was the fuel pump(no pressure i think, couldn't get a strait answer), but it seems O.K. i took it out and it ran on the bench hooked up to a battery. put it back in and checked to see if it was getting power, it wasn't. with the key on there is no power to the fuel pump relay coil, but there is power to the relay contact, so basically there is no power to the coil to pull in the contacts. could it be a security thing? normally the security light flashes when there is a security issue but it is not flashing now. i am out of ideas any help would be great. thanks.

If you find out whats wrong and fix it please let me know. We just had our ignition switch recently replaced because of the security light deal. I"m trying to tell if the fuel pump is running. haven't had alot of time to troubleshoot. I will this weekend. But let me know.

Re: 2000 GA won't start

We found that the connections on the fuel pump were bad, (the connections that connect to the actual pump inside the assembly). We crimped them real good with a pliers. If I have anymore trouble i will soldier them. So it was not the security system after all, with the security issues we have had in the past i thought that might be the problem, but it was not to blame this time.

The connections were loose. the car killed on me the other day going down the hiway, but it started back up just fine not sure what that was about. i am done with this car, we are selling it. we bought a toyota camry, they have a good reputation so we will see how that works out. for now we will say good bye to GM!

I agree 100% with you these Grand Ams are peices of s**t! When I get rid of this one I'll never buy another. Looks like a lot of people have the security problem and pontiac should repair those free (recall) but I guess they dont honor their crappy work.
Let me list all the problems I've had with this car most when it was only two years old.

1 The blinkers don't work half the time. (I know they actually had a
recall on that prob because it's cheap)
2 One of the windows doesn't roll down and I have to beat the side of
the door to get it to work
3 I've already had to replace the rotors due to vibration.
4 the wheel bearings and cv axle on one side had to be replaced.
5 The ignition switch had to be replaced due to security problem not
letting the car start for 15 minutes (which is a pain when you're at a
store and have to wait)
6 The fuel pump connectors were loose in the tank causing it not to
start.
7. Replaced fuel pump after it quit working again!!!
8. A/C blower motor resistor bad.
Too many problems for a 2001 if you ask me. Thanks Pontiac.
