Newbie - Simple setup, missing some bass???

Hey tried a few searches but couldn't find my scenario...Thank you in advance anyone willing to school me here, you will probably save me $700 when I blow my setup doing "trial and error"...

Basically I have a stock weak-ass "monsoon" system in my Camaro which I just hooked up a Kenwood KAC 7252 1000W Amp to and am running it to one RFosgate 10" sub in the back (HX2 DVC). Very simple.

The problem is I get great super-low bass out of this setup but not some of the slightly higher bass notes I used to get out of my previous RF sub/LA amp. I tested some songs that I felt had good basslines and it kind of misses them all except that "Miami bass" kind of deep headache-inducing boom. Clearly I need to upgrade the rest of my system, but what can I do in the meantime to get some of the other bass notes -

- turn the filter from low-pass to off?
- where should the frequency be set (40-100)?

any other suggestions???

your low pass is probably set to low. Set it anywhere from 60-100hz to what your desire.

I've been a little confused about what a low pass filter actually does... I thought for a while that it cut all the frequencies off below the value it was set at, but logically that doesn't make much sense. If it does cut all the frequencies off above what it's set at, how can you tell when it's above the range the sub is capable of? Also, what's the best method for setting the gains correctly? I've tried listening for it as I gradually turn it up when musics playing, but I can barely hear it until it's almost all the way up (like 90% or more). The other speakers kinda drown it out, it seems.

LPF= the frequency where the cutoff begins. All frequencies ABOVE the LPF are gradually decresed by a certain number (12 db's/octave .... 24 db's/octave....ect.).

Try setting your LPF to 80Hz to start, then tune up or down from there to your preference. To set your gains by ear, you basically max out the deck(if you have a speaker amp, in which case you would follow the gain setting steps for each amp.) or turn the deck as high as you can without distortion on the speakers(if running deck power) then slowly turn the gain on your sub-amp up until it distorts audibly. As soon as it does, back it off a bit. There is a better way to do it with a multimeter, but i never learned it.

Actually you don't want to have your head unit on max volume EVER. The outputs in the HU will clip and ESPECIALLY if you have the bass/treble all the way up it will clip a decent bit before max volume. And distortion is VERY hard to hear in your subwoofer until you are way past optimal gains It's best to use a multimeter or get a song that has a lot of different volumes in the bass. If they're all the sae loudness your clipping if they are louder/ more quiet how they should be then your fine. The song I use is late night tip.

J/K!!! I'd kill to have a car just like that man, it looks awesome even in that blue color. Only thing I'd even think about changing is those wheels, but even they look absolutely awesome.
