notchy steering

my 97 1500 2wd does this weird thing when driving it seems like the steering sticks ,like no power assist and then suddenly it releases and drives fine. i notice it more in warmer weather than cold.could it be the steering assist or the steering box.the whole front end is new and it still does it .thanks

Re: notchy steering

I would start with the power steering pump. I have a 94 Grand Am that had the same symptoms and it ended up being a bad pump.

Re: notchy steering

99.99% it is your steering positioning sensor. Very common thing to go wrong on most all vehicles. Mine has been doing for about 25K miles and is slowly getting worse. The part itself is around $60 i think.
