rice should be eaten

Man, whats the deal with these econobox cars with jumbo jet spoiliers and huge tin can mufflers? These little cars are always running up to me and wanting to race. Whats up with that? Someone needs to tell them that stickers dont add horse power. Just the other day i was driving down the road minding my own business when this civic comes flying by and cuts me off, i just ignore it. A few minutes later i end up next to him at a stoplight, the guy is looking over and reving up. So i know he is going to fly. The light turns and he takes off, i sit there and let him get about a couple car lenghts ahead before i punch it. I blow by him before i even get out of 1st gear. Needless to say the civic hangs behind me untill i pull off. What are these people thinking? If they want horse power they need to get a sports car. These people are all about show, but with no go.

well..

ok, i agree, i have never been beaten by an import car in my life beside's my own and my friend's twin turbo 300 zx. but some of those cars show promise to the few owner's out there that can actually drive them.
i have a 96 eagle talon tsi, and i am willing to bet that before you made it out of second gear i would be finished a quarter mile...and before you hit the brake pedal after reaching 100 mph i could already be stopped and waiting for you at the end of the track.
it just takes a special talent and a different kind of knowledge to make an import car faster, and since there just isn't any old timers in the import car business, there are very few people with that talent.
i will never lose my love for muscle cars, but my talon is quickly becoming my fave in a few categories besides straightline power.
i can introduce you to a very, very mean rx7 if you live anywhere near alberta, canada.

wanna be eclipse are slow

No matter how good a driver is, a car can only go so fast. The eagle talon tsi is a slug. It takes it over 15.1 sec. to run the 1/4 mile. My cobra would eat it for lunch.

ohmigod...

ok, where did i mention that the tsi is stock?
you might be able to muster a 14.0 pass out of that rustang, if your lucky.
my best pass to date in the talon is a 12.40 @110 mph. and actually, it isn't even my car...it's my girlfriend's.
i put a spearco intercooler into it, a turbo xs boost controller and blow off valve and all the necessary guages in order to make sure i don't blow the thing up. it also got a 3 inch exhaust with no muffler...just straightpipe. a little loud, but not overly. it's only 121 cubic inches.
it has an upgraded in-tank fuel pump, and the rest of the drivetrain is stock save for the centerforce dual friction clutch.
it doesn't even have a short throw shifter.
and btw, these cars aren't even that fast when stock. this thing went a 15.76@85 mph, stock, but also at a 2800 ft elevation. this is probably an eleven second car at sea level, but i won't know until i get to run it in Mission this summer.
btw, my girlfriend is 18 and i am 19. i have been racing for 3 years now and if you think i couldn't take that cobra in the slowest of my cars you are very, very wrong.

I have seen that year range run 15 sec flat, consistently, in the hands of capable drivers. So you where doing something wrong if you where getting 15.7s . Im going to the dragstrip next friday to see what mine runs. I know a guy with similar mods on a 94 cobra that runs 12.8s in the 1/4. And he is a crappy driver.

wth

you must think your some kinda god eh?
you show me a 3500 lbs car that can run 15.0 with 205 hp and i'll call bullshit.
the talon weighs 3678 with a pretty big stereo in it, coupled with the drag from awd, i don't think that a 200 hp 4 cylinder can make a low 15 second pass in that car falling off a cliff.

i have a friend (another girl...lol) with a 96 svt cobra with about 12000 dollars worth of engine work. it has 4.56 gears, better cams, head porting, injector's, throttle body, etc.
on the street my 440 cuda anhialated the mustang (4 car lengths at around 120 mph) and all i have run in that car is a 13.60 @ 100mph
are you just making these numbers up as you go along or do you actually have any way of verifying them with actual proof?
next time i am at my buddy's house i'll scan pics of some 10, 12, and 13 second timeslips. you do the same, than we'll talk.

btw, i don't wanna be your enemy man. like i said in another thread, i like your attitude that american muscle is da shiznit and all that stuff. but don't call me a wannabe....i have met a lot of guys like you before.

Ok, I'm confused by both of you, you both seem to be not the smartest as you will argue the others points and i dont know why . Also about that girl that has 12,000 into the cobra, she just cant drive cause last I knew, they pulled better numbers than that stock.

whoa whoa..

ok, don't just barge in insulting my intelligence.
you don't make any sense with that comment, so just hush.
and no, up here you will NOT find a stock car capable of sub 14 second passes. it simply is not possible. the air is just not right and the altitude is too high for the cars to make the advertised power that the factories give them while testing in almost perfect conditions.
the mustang is supposed to have 390 hp, to tell you the truth i don't know how much money it takes to make that much power but changing 4 cam's can't be very easy/cheap in itself.
btw, a buddy of my dad has a 99 c5 vette and it runs 14.20-14.30's. he is well into his 50's and he knows how to shift...cars just aren't that fast up here.

Hey, if you dont believe me check out http://www.car-stats.com Its verafied sources, look it up. It has the 95 tsi @ 15.1 in the 1/4. I dont know what to tell you about your friends cobra, either someone cant drive or the mods are quite miss matched. This guy i have talked to has time slips for his 94 cobra running 12.8. You can check it out athttp://www.forums.svtperformance.com...threadid=11698 His name is 94cobra

alright

your right, it does say that's what the car runs.
and forgive me for saying you were wrong, but i know that the best you could pull out of one of those cars, at least where i am from, is maybe a couple hundredth's faster than my time.
but that is about right, 6 tenths difference between sea level and 2800 foot elevation. top fuel cars usually run about 5.30 -5.50 at our track, so, there you have it.
it was her dad driving the mustang. he isn't ronnie sox behind a 4 speed or anything but he isn't slow. we both spun real bad but i was still pulling on him towards the very end.

like those v6 camaros/mustangs, and late 80's/early 90's 5.0s and iroc z's that come up revving at me when their car is all stock and for some reason they think they can beat me? (maybe its cuz i drive a wagon ) yeah those people are pretty stupid as well. face it there are dumbass drivers on both sides, its not just imports. just like there are fast cars on both sides. your car isnt exactly what id call a "sports car" its a "muscle car" to me a sports car must have a capable suspension to match its engine. your solid axle rear isnt cutting it. a v6 camaro with the rs bodykit is no more of a sports car then an accord v6 with a bodykit, and i bet the accord is faster anyways.

I just have to ask if you even read the original post before replying chebbiesux? He was talking about economy imports, which a Talon is not. You know there are a lot of statements you make that you should think about before you make them. You are debating about your "girlfriends" Talon and stating it can beat a Cuda with a 440ci Six Pack, well being the Talon is modded and the Cuda is a lot heavier of course it would win. Also I would like to hear how much boost you are running to get those times, just curious that’s all. I would agree that the Talon TSi and the Eclipse GSX are slugs stock but they do have A LOT better potential than a Civic. I toy with Talons and Eclipse all the time in my car which weighs about 2900 pounds and I am not sure of the altitude here in Provo Utah but I know it is higher that 2800, so it would be nice to see what I could run at sea level. I can't wait to mod the Baron with some similar things once the Turbo dies and I get another. Also a Cuda has the potential to always be faster than you Talon. No matter what you do to that car the Cuda can be made faster. And the AAR Cuda can handle pretty damn good.

This is sillyness! Why must people go around shitting on everyone elses car? Mustang SVTs are nice cars, (Although not my personal type of car) Talon TSis are also nice cars... Whats the big issue here? People who really appretiate cars don't go around saying "My car would eat yours for lunch" to every one! I don't care if I had a 1000hp GTR I would still give the nicely done Talon props 'cause its a nice car.
