Converting 1991 f150 2x4 to 4x4

I have a 1991 F150 300 six 5 spd 2x4 that I want to convert to 4x4. The truck is rust free and has only 38,000 original miles.

It looks as if I can just bolt in a front differential, transfer case & drive shafts from another F150 to make this a 4x4. I have a rusted out 4x4 with a bad frame with the parts I need.

Any advice on any problems I might encounter along the way? Is the steering linkage the same with 2x4 & 4x4? Do the gears in the front differential need to match the rear gears?

I know it will be a major undertaking but I really want to do this if it can be done.

Your suggestions on what I might encounter would be appreciated.

is the donor truck the same year?
i would take it all and do it on thing at a time and take pics before you start for later referance.
not sure on the diff frames for your body style but mine is a 78 f-250 4x4 they only made that frame 2 1/2 years.takes a diff gearbox than any of the others.and expensive.
make sure you use good bolts like grade 8,don't forget the loc-tite and cotter pins.
the harness may need some work done on it to.are the trannys the same?
