SL vs TT 300ZX

This has me confused...

I got on the highway today and pulled infront of a 300ZX, no idea which year, he had body kit, rims, t-tops, the whole deal...looked pretty sweet. Well instantly hes on my bumper as I expect he would be so I let him pass knowing he's gonna want to run and I see the twin turbo on the back. Instantly i'm thinking hell no i'm not racing you, I even shook my head at him like "NOOO, I know you're faster"...but of course he persisted in hittin the gas and lettin off next to me so I was like f*ck it, might as well watch a fast car in action. From about 80 we both floor it and here's where i'm confused...he BARELY pulls on me, and I mean barely, and i'm lookin over like wtf...he shut it down around 125 cuz traffic was right there, I kinda coasted down to 100 leaving him behind.

Now I know when I drove a TT Stealth I was doin 115 in no time flat from a stop (didnt go higher cuz it wasnt my car), so I was expecting him to just blow me away...is it b/c we were already going fast, early TT 300ZX's were sluggish, or was something wrong with his engine? Am I right in thinking he should have blown me away?

Re: SL vs TT 300ZX

First of all...theres a lot of bad drivers out there..maybe including myself. Second, Twin Turbo decals or stickers are sold on Ebay. Could very well be a fake TT(there are many). If it was a TT and he is an OK driver then he has a problem. A friend of mine has one. And it pulls pretty damn good at 80. Something isnt right if u ask me...

Its also possible that he was just going for the win. There are times I just push it just hard enough to stay in front but not push the car to its limits.

Re: SL vs TT 300ZX

Ok, that's what I was thinking too, maybe he was just messing with me or it was just a decal. But I wasn't sure if maybe the early TT's were slower or something like that.

Re: SL vs TT 300ZX

If it was a TT, you may have been able to hear the BOV if he was on your left side.

there are numerous things. It could have even been a sick TT, cause sick VR-4s can be as sluggish as an N/A.

Re: SL vs TT 300ZX

I raced one about a week ago, and it was only a tad slower than I was, so it was probably suffering from huge boost leaks or something. I posted the story in the street racing section if you're at all interested.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

no, autos are generally faster than manuals in 2WD turbocharged cars.

A BPU VR-4 will walk a stock Z TT pretty nicely. I'm not sure how things would be stock for stock from a roll, probably a driver's race. The main difference is the 300ZX comes with bigger turbos stock than we do.
