What is your Z used for?

From reading a few of the threads around i've gained the impression that drag racing is high on the agenda for a lot of people in the states and south of the border. Is this an unrealistic assumption, i mean aside from the occasional red light fight, are people that into driving in a straight line? Seems strange to me, i understand that the Z aint exactly built for drifting but please don't tell me use guys shy away from corners, it'd be interesting to here from people about how they enjoy their Z experience the most, to each their own so if your a dedicated drag nut, explain the reason for it, but if your like me and love the corners again let me know.

Cheers, Adam

actually most of us are into the corners...i know that i am building my Z32 to be a force whether its the drag strip, auto-X, stop-light racing, or just highspeed cruising on the highway. so basically im building an all around "performance" car...

i actually like a race with turns more than an oval track or straight line. i think thats how most of us are...i plan to take some professional lessons this summer and hopefully become a very good auto-x racer with the Z32...

Good answer K3. Myself I use drag racing to pay for my habit of driving fast on the road. My greatest joy comes from smoking down the hwy. at eye watering speeds. I have but 1 maybe 2 more goals left till I retire.
The first is to hit the Salt and the 2nd maybe is to try the Silver State Challange.
I'd love to head down your way Adam and take a stab at trying to miss the kangaroo's and birds.

Re: What is your Z used for?

How much do you get winning drags al? Theres a circle track near me, but driving in a oval doesnt appeal to me. I would love to race circuit tracks around the world like germany, japan, italy, just to name a few. Since I dont have a z i dont have any to use. if i start saving now i should get my unique Z32.. I feel left out......

Re: What is your Z used for?

me my Z at the moment is purely transport, getting me from my house to university and then back 3 days a week, the other four days im either cleaning it, lookin for ways to improve it, or talkin about it... but im actually in the process of getting my CAMS liscence which entitles me to participate in track days and competitions like Targa Tasmania for example (probably never heard of it) Don't know if i'd be game enough to run my stock Z on the track though... she's too pretty, im currently looking at my options for the future, A lotus Elise or Exige would be brilliant, unfortunatley i don't have the requisite 100 grand to get one. Actually im thinking of buying a well used 911 (a 70's model) with a mate and earn my racing stripes with that. Good to hear use arnt that focused on draging because it's just pretty dull compared to the white knuckle twisty stuff... carry on then
Cheers, oh yeah Albert you'll love Australia but hit kangaroo buck and they'll mess you up good and proper, they weigh like 150kg+

I know what you mean Adam...We have goats down here and drunk Mexicans. There too tall to go under the car, and too short to go over it. They just mess up the front of your car like the little birds.

Mine is a daily driver. But I live in an area with lots of curves so my commute is fun! Unless of course, the traffic is backed up due to too many older people driving their oversized SUV's. Occasionally I do a little "straight line" when I race. But the "curves" are why I bought a Z in the first place.

The only time I raced on a curvy road was with a Pontiac Grand Am. And it didn't take very long to leave him WAY behind! No competition at all!

Re: What is your Z used for?

Well I would like to try and get back into racing..... worked on a amature drag team for a while in school, with a bunch of friends. We had 2 cars a 78 Mustang that ran low 13s, and a FC RX7 that ran mid 12s. They were trailer queens, both had been built to drag. But they were a great learning experiance. I personally perfer high speed courses, like Leguna Seca, Nurberg Ring, and Watkins Glen. I also love Ralling. My next major project will be to build a decent rally car out of a old Ford Escort RS. I doubt I will drive it, I perfer to turn the wrenches. I love being the man who gave the man what he needed to win. I dont like all the spot light fame and such.

But my Z is used mainly for daily driving. But I am working on a securing a second chassis to make into a course car, this will most likely be the Super Zs chassis....... not sure what it might be yet a 240Z all the way to a Z32 who knows.... whatever I stumble across thats in decent shape that can be saved and made pretty again.
