more power for my vic

Hi, I have had my 92 crown vic LX 4.6 L. for 6 months now, and I am very supprised at its poewr and performance. But I was dissapointed when I raced my friends 93 Buick Lasabre Custom, and he beat me by like a 3/4 a car length. I'm not saying that racing is right, in any way. But anyways, how would I upgrade my engine? For more poewr and faster acceleration, and even better gas milage? I have heard of these p71 chips and such. Please help. Thanks.

ok.cool . So any chip from that website will work on my car? Will it be as easy that I will be able oto do it? Because I have no experiece with cars. And if It is hard, who do I turn to? Also, where do I look to buy my dual exaust for my vic? I have no clue where to start

Any salvage yard will have dual exhaust from a police car, town car, or one with the towing package that will simply replace your single exhaust. Aside from that, an exhaust shop can do this as well. It is not difficult, nor should it be expensive (over $300).

Installing a chip is fairly easy, once you get the coating off of the ship port on the computer (VERY easy to remove and clean).

Ok cool. Thank you for yourhelp Mod. I am ganna start modding when I get my paycheck . I think I will start out with the Switch Chip from the fist website that you gave me, and then Ill put in the Catalys Converter (Whever its called) and then the dual exhaust. Thanks again for your hewlp

If your gonna spend the $$$ to go dual exhaust,you should'nt just throw in stock mufflers and be done with it,the stock muffler(s) are very restrictive.You need something with some flow to really improve your engines performance.I recommend Flowmaster's 30 Series Mufflers,I have Dual 30's on my '87 Vic,and it easily gave me a 20+hp boost.If you have limited mechanical skills,the MAF and Airbox from a Marauder will be the easiest install for you,allthough it will not give you the performance of a Cold Air Intake.On my '87 Vic I custom fabricated a Cold Air Intake out of 3in. pipe so thats in runs into the front fenderwell just in front of the tire,I then put a K&N Cone Air Filter on it,and Installed a 80mm Throttle Body.It took me about 3 hours to Fabricate and Install everything,and it gave me about a 25-30hp Gain.Also Installing a Raidiator with Electric Fans,removing your mechanical fan and installing performance pulleys,will free up about 15-20hp and give you about 3-4mpg more than your getting now.These are some of the easiest things you can do to make more Power,but I could go on and on.

BS on that. The stock mufflers are NOT at all restrictive (when you have two of them). Also, the cost should be around $200-$300 for the other side, no reason to do both as your stock system is made of Stainless Steel, you do not want to replace that with some crap mild steel system.

Partially true. The MM MAF/Airbox isvery easy, BUT you NEED a chip for it to work properly. A "Cold Air Intake" will net you nealry zero in your application.

So far you claim to have "gained" 20hp on mufflers, and 25-30 Hp with this CAI/K&N/TB set up. Since you started with about 180 at the crank you should be in the neighborhood of 220-230 based on you "guestimates", and I would wager you don't have 180 at the wheels right now.

As you can tell, people who post their ideas without data to back it up irratates me. Lots of claims, no proof. I have dynoed dozens of crown vics, Town Cars, Marauders etc., NONE will gain anything close to what you claim with the mods you listed. Especially an early 90's CV with small valves, low-lift cams, and a restrictive intake and Catalyst system.

Wow,are'nt you a knowitall.All my claims about the upgrades I've done,and any 5.0 or 4.6 owner can do are Fact,the proof is sitting outside in my driveway as I type this.Yes the HP gains I posted for each upgrade are guesstimates,because I did'nt Dyno it after each new upgrade.I also did'nt list all the other things I've done to get it to the 265+RWHP she's putting out now,and Yes that really has been proven on the dyno,but I've done more Performance Upgrades to that Car than I care to take the time to list.That cold air intake,which you claimed would net me zero HP Gain(Total BS,I felt the power gain first hand after it was installed),has since been replaced by a Turbo Kit.Regardless of what your opinion is,It has been proven that Flowmaster or Magnaflow Mufflers will outperform the stock muffler(s),single or dual exhaust,with or without the cats,which have been gutted in my Vic.I have the Dyno printout right here in front of me showing that she puts out 268HP at the rear wheels,and My performance at the track every sunday are all the proof I need.She's one Killer Sleeper Considering how much $$$$ I have in Her.In posting my responce to the starter of this thread,I was not trying to give him exact HP figures and charts for what each upgrade could do for him.I was just trying to give him some Advice on Relativly simple things he could do to improve his performance,Just Trying to Help Him,and you coming in and picking apart the things I said instead of trying to help,just shows how much of an ignorant asshole you really are.Have a Nice Day

hehe ok thanks guys . Iwill try everything. The cats, the exhaust (Normal, not the Flowmaster or such things), Switch Chip, and also.I have one more question. What is Forced Induction? Can I do that with my car? Cuz with forced induction with the chip,. it is like 50-75HP gain it says. that would be awsome. thanks guys

No, I do not "know it all", but I do know more about the realistic power gains to be had on a Panther than you do, clearly.

You claim to have "gained" roughly 45 HP from your mods, not gonna happen pal. Even the '87 GTs did not produce the gains you claim, with more mods than you made. You upper intake is crap for good airflow, most knowledgeable people with the 5.slow use the "GT40" upper and heads to get the numbers you claim from CAI, fan delete, and UDs. Get real.

I know of more people who have "upgraded" their mufflers only to make gains on the order of 2-3 RWHP than people you even know. This is simply lying to this fella to claim he will se ANY noticeable gains from non-factory mufflers. There certainly are gains (15-20 Hp, or 10-15 RWHP) to be had from goind FROM single to dual, but they type of muffler is not important, not at all.

It surely is possible that is the power of your car. It is NOT possible for a 5.0 to make those numbers w/o cams, headers, upper and lower intakes, and probabally heads but it depends on how well the other parts you have work togather.

Just so you know, most of the Marauders (highest output panthers ever to leave the factory) typically dyno about 245-250 RWHP, so you should be able to spank every Marauder ever produced in stock trim. He will never get there without forced induction (blower, turbo etc).

I'm not the internet police, and I'm sure he appreciates the suggestions you offered, which except for the mufflers, are all perfectly valid ones, they just will NEVER produce the results you claim, especially on his particular car.

Listen guy,like I said The HP numbers I quoted for those Mods were Just a guess,I dont have a dyno to run her after each upgrade,and Yes just about everything on my 5.Fast has been upgraded outside of the Engine Block Itself.Comp Racing Cam,and the GT-40X Heads Made the Biggest HP Difference outside of the Blower.

What says volumes for my intellect is the fact that I know that nothing can or will be done to me for gutting my Cats,as no one who enforces these laws will ever know unless they test my emissions,and I dont think the local government is going around to ppl's houses testing there exhaust emissions and locking ppl up or fining them $$$,now are they,I dont think so.My State inspection is taken care of by a friend of mine,for a small fee.Of course going single to dual exhaust will be about an 15-20hp gain,But if you think the type of muffler is not important then you obviously have no experience with these mufflers.My buddy who runs the performance shop here,has shown me first hand on the dyno the stock 5.0 in a '88 Mustang with dual exhaust will gain about 10-15hp with dual Flowmaster 30 series mufflers over the stock mufflers.Those Stock Vic Mufflers are made to make the 5.0 or the 4.6 as quiet as possible,not for maximum flow,More Flow and Less Backpressure=More HP.It dosent matter what you believe to be true i've saw this first hand.

Listen im not claiming to know anymore about Vic's than you or anyone else here,but I do know My '87 Vic & her 5.0 inside and out.I've upgraded her every step of the way and saw the RWHP numbers she now puts out,but Im not here to prove myself or my cars HP to anyone,Im here to help ppl with their Problems they might be having with there Vic's,thats all.

supechips are the very best.. you just plug it in and reprogram to the performance you want..i have 1998 vic..
