rear end howl

i have a2000 s10 xtreme 3 door after about 10 miles of highway driving i get a loud howling sound coming from the rear of the truck after about 30 miles the sound is even worse it only has 60,000 miles on it and doubt its the ring and pinion i rotated the tires and looked for e brake hang up also there is plenty of fluid in the pumpkin any one have this same problem

u know the gear ratio? Could also be an axle bearing or the carrier bearings. most times if there is a howling or grumbling, it is bearings.

gear ratio i think is 3.42 to 1

Howl When? on or off throttle,. At tip in or out?Gears howl or whine,Carrier Brgs growl or rumble. U-joints occ. klink, klank with on/off throttle and grumbel but with a occ.change in pitch over bumps .Axle brg rumble more in corners .man groans.

no clanking just a howl that gets worse with tire speed no difference on or off throttle no change while cornering

This is too obvious but necessary to ask. Are both tires the same diameter? If not, the spydies or slippies would put up a hell of ruckus after a while. And then of course after a while there would be the BIG BANG. I think the news is that u will have to pull the cover and strain the gear oil and look see what is swimming around in there. BEAR PAWS!!
